Job Summary

Under the direction of a licensed pharmacist, the Pharmacy Technician will prepare, dispense, and distribute medications, pharmaceutical products, and intravenous admixtures, including hazardous drugs. The successful candidate will maintain pharmacy inventory and equipment, assist healthcare professionals, and perform various duties as assigned.

Key Responsibilities
  • Drug Procurement & Storage
    • Maintain and review pharmacy inventory in designated areas, ensuring compliance with policies and procedures.
    • Assist in inventory control, prioritizing and maintaining maximum workflow in the pharmacy.
    • Dispose of waste in accordance with policies and procedures, including hazardous and non-hazardous medications.
  • Drug Preparation/Dispensing
    • Alert pharmacists to potential contraindications, duplicate therapies, sensitivities, or interactions.
    • Fulfill unit dose patient-specific medication supplies, packaging and sealing emergency medication supplies.
    • Review Medication Administration Records for appropriateness and advise licensed personnel of discrepancies.
  • Automated Systems & Equipment
    • Operate and maintain specialized pharmacy equipment, including automated dispensing devices and I.V. compounding pumps.
    • Perform periodic checks and adjustments to ensure optimal performance.
  • Regulatory
    • Uphold Kaiser Permanente's Policies and Procedures, Principles of Responsibilities, and applicable state, federal, and local laws.
    • Demonstrate knowledge of Federal and State laws, standards, rules, and regulations governing pharmacy practice.
Requirements
  • Pharmacy Technician License (California)
  • High School Diploma or GED
  • Working knowledge of aseptic technique and ability to prepare sterile IV products
  • Ability to learn and willingness to prepare hazardous drugs
  • Proficiency in oral and written English communication skills
  • Ability to read, understand, and transcribe pharmaceutical information
  • Working knowledge of current drug forms, classes, strengths, generic, and trade names
  • Requires working knowledge of, and the ability to become proficient in, the computer system
  • Knowledge of Federal and State laws and regulations regarding the provision of pharmaceutical services
Preferred Qualifications
  • Licensed with Pharmacy Technician Certification Board (PTCB)
