Job Summary

Chevron is seeking a highly skilled and detail-oriented Laboratory Research Technician to join our Renewable Fuels team in the Build for Tomorrow unit under the Molecular Conversion department. This is a dynamic and challenging role that requires a strong background in laboratory experimental work and basic laboratory skills.

Key Responsibilities

  • Maintain a safe and well-organized laboratory environment, adhering to Richmond Technology Center safety standards.
  • Operate bench scale units for catalyst or process testing, handling sample collection, storage, and submission for analysis.
  • Handle potentially toxic substances and a broad variety of renewable and petroleum-derived materials.
  • Perform various laboratory activities, including blending, heated filtration, rotavap, and other wet chemistry techniques such as titration.
  • Handle basic maintenance and troubleshooting for test equipment.
  • Conduct catalyst synthesis work under the guidance of senior scientists and engineers.
  • Lift five-gallon cans in sampling and blending.
  • Maintain accurate and complete records of work to support process transfer, scale-up, and intellectual property protection.
  • Report data in written and oral reports, including data presentations in tabulated and graphical formats.
  • Maintain a high degree of independence, responsibility, reliability, and accountability in planning and conducting experiments.
  • Work effectively under pressure of multiple deadlines.

Required Qualifications

  • B.S. in Chemistry or Chemical Engineering or related field, or equivalent work experience in an industrial research environment.
  • Proficient in standard Microsoft Office suite of products (Word, PowerPoint, Excel).
  • Able to wear a respirator for chemical/catalyst handling.

Preferred Qualifications

  • Strong background in laboratory experimental work and basic laboratory skills.
  • Operation of bench scale units, as well as maintenance and modification.
  • Attention to detail, issue detection, and solution proposal.
  • Strong mechanical skills for repairing and modifying equipment.
  • Ability to work with complex tasks, complex projects, and multiple tasks at the same time.
  • Strong verbal and written communications skills.
  • Proven experience working within a team environment and drawing on knowledge and skills of others.

The anticipated salary range for this position is $64,400 – $114,400. The selected candidate's compensation will be determined based on their skills, experience, and qualifications.
