About the Opportunity

This position plays a critical role in the success of West Virginia University, overseeing the operation and maintenance of the campus utility infrastructure. The successful candidate will be responsible for managing skilled trade personnel and technical programs to control maintenance, repair, and alteration of University facilities.

Key Responsibilities
  • Develop and implement plans for repair and maintenance, including identification, prioritization, budget development, design, and scheduling.
  • Ensure compliance with applicable Federal, State, and Local codes and WVU policies.
  • Act as a Facilities Liaison with the WVU community.
  • Manage a complex Preventive Maintenance program to reduce break downs, repair costs, and increase the reliability of the University's infrastructure.
  • Develop and manage a Predictive Maintenance program to identify equipment deficiencies and repair needs prior to system failure.
  • Develop internal policies and procedures to address workflow, shutdown procedures, safety, and quality control for the department.
  • Prepare drawings for manufacture of customized parts or to convey piping/design changes.
  • Coordinate with suppliers, engineers, architects, customers, etc. to assure timely and cost-effective repairs and projects.
Requirements
  • Bachelor's Degree in Engineering or equivalent combination of education and experience.
  • A minimum of four (4) years experience in the following:
    • General knowledge of building maintenance with focus on plumbing, piping, steam distribution, complex control systems, welding, and integration of various infrastructure components and/or systems.
    • Manager/Supervisor experience.
    • Electronic experience.
    • Working knowledge of various software programs that include all Microsoft Office, CMMS Systems, Building Automation, Time/Attendance.
  • Demonstrates knowledge of building systems, how they operate, and interactions between system variables and how they can affect operation.
  • Strong logic and analytical skills, system focus/root cause.
  • Ability to function in highly stressful situations.
  • Broad knowledge of technology with the ability to integrate cutting edge technology into existing systems.
  • Excellent communication skills, ability to work/converse in professional, technical language as well as in simple, everyday terminology.
  • Ability to read complex mechanical/electrical diagrams, advises on troubleshooting techniques, and create/alter sequence of operations.
  • Ability to troubleshoot and repair complex control systems and system safety equipment.
  • Self-motivated/ability to function with minimal supervision/direction and lead by example.
  • Ability to manage a cross functional work team comprised of skilled trades personnel to complete assignments, tasks, and repairs on schedule and within budget.
