Job Summary

The State of Idaho is seeking a highly skilled Technical Records Specialist 1 to join our Bureau of Criminal Identification Team in the Applicant Unit. This position provides a variety of records support functions, including reviewing and processing documents, determining and explaining compliance with laws, rules, regulations, and policies, and maintaining a manual or computerized records system.

Key Responsibilities
  • Review, evaluate, approve, and process civil and law enforcement applicant background check documents.
  • Research, analyze, and interpret responses from criminal history records for dissemination to state, local, and independent agencies or private individuals.
  • Determine and explain compliance with laws, rules, regulations, and policies and take appropriate action providing information and services to customers.
  • Evaluate and manage processing of transactions into electronic accounting software, including creating billing invoices, researching money received on account, posting, and applying payments.
  • Provide fingerprint services for licensing, employment, and personal criminal history checks.
Requirements
  • Minimum requirement is typically met by 1 year of work-related experience for all the following:
  • Experience monitoring a records system to identify and correct errors.
  • Researching a variety of sources to resolve problems.
  • Interpreting, explaining, and applying regulations, laws, or complex policies to carry out assignments.
  • Entering and retrieving data using a computerized records system.
  • Ability to type 40 words per minute.
Preferred Qualifications
  • At least one year of work experience obtaining and safeguarding sensitive information.
  • Experience using word processing software to create and modify documents.
  • Experience with cash handling, balancing, and reconciling.
  • Ability to speak English & Spanish fluently.
  • Previous experience working in a law enforcement agency.
