We're seeking an experienced Human Resources professional to join our team as a Strategic Business Partner at UPMC.


The ideal candidate will contribute to UPMC's operational success by applying an understanding of HR knowledge to strategic business planning and execution.

The strategic business partner will lead a team of employee relations and recruitment professionals that support Home Health & Hospice at UPMC.

They will build and maintain a valued advisor relationship with all customers by understanding front line issues as well as strategic business objectives.

Additionally, they will provide day-to-day management and supervision to their team, as well as ensure that all employment-related decisions are made in compliance with federal, state, and local laws as well as JCAHO and other regulatory requirements.

This is a regular, full-time position that offers flexible work arrangements in a hybrid environment. Occasional travel is required for site visits and business meetings.

Key Responsibilities:


Serve as a strategic business partner that works collaboratively with other organizational leaders to work through current HR and business situations.

Utilize a proactive approach to recognizing organizational needs and develop thought-based action plans.


Act as a role model of service by consistently delivering thought-out, sound, quality HR and business solutions that meet customer demands and are proactive in scope, and accessible in nature.


Establish and foster a professional climate, dedicated to supporting the mission, vision, values, and goals of the organization by providing value-added world-class service delivery.


Select, train, and supervise a staff of highly functional human resources professionals who are actively engaged in furthering organizational goals through strategic partnerships.

Consult on HR and business strategy, with an emphasis on improving, influencing, and challenging the status quo.


Manage and participate on local and/or organization-wide committees that focus on projects that move the organization forward and toward meeting organizational goals.

Prepare reports on the end product and results, the benefits of the output, and how to put it into action.

Develop staff toward their identified and desired next career step. Recognize areas of improvement and strengths. Capitalize on strengths and focus on improving needs.

Promote an overall positive employee experience. Strive for active employee engagement and identify ways to retain employees on an individual level.


Effectively communicate expectations with business, operational, and HR partners while promoting a One Team collaborative atmosphere in which all functions of HR work together as one team.

Continuously hone skills and upgrade business acumen, to stay abreast of industry trends. Demonstrate capabilities and professional knowledge, and the ability to assimilate new knowledge.


The salary range for this position is $85,000 - $110,000 per year.


Labor relations experience is highly preferred.


This position requires the proven ability to drive progressive HR strategies while maintaining compliance with all federal, state, and local legislation as it applies to Human Resources and the employment process required.

Excellent written and verbal communication skills.

Proven ability to build strategic alliances with key internal and external partners and a commitment to inclusion and diversity.

Licensure, Certifications, and Clearances:
Act 34


PHR, SPHR certification, SHRM-CP, SHRM-SCP certification or UPMC HCI Strategic HR Business Partner Certification required within the first 12 months of hire for external candidates.

Internal applicants within UPMC HR are required to have the certification requirements in place to be considered for promotional opportunities.
