Job Summary

The Patient Care Technician is a vital member of the healthcare team, providing direct patient care and support services under the supervision of a Registered Nurse (RN). This role requires a strong commitment to delivering high-quality patient care and a passion for working in a fast-paced healthcare environment.

Key Responsibilities
  • Provide direct patient care, including bathing, dressing, and feeding patients, as well as assisting with ambulation and lifting.
  • Take vital signs, such as blood pressure, pulse, and temperature, and record them in the patient's medical record.
  • Assist with patient elimination needs, including emptying bedpans and catheter bags.
  • Provide range of motion exercises and give back rubs to patients.
  • Label patient care belongings with the patient's name.
  • Assist with transporting patients, including time of transfer and/or dismissal.
  • Chart diet, intake, and output, and bath in the patient's electronic medical record.
  • Measure drainage, including marking drainage bottles and recording drainage on appropriate forms.
  • Answer patient call lights and participate in hourly patient rounds to proactively address patient needs.
  • Clean and care for equipment and work area, including straightening kitchen and utility rooms, emptying linen and trash receptacles, and performing unit errands.
  • Provide close observation or one-to-one care, as directed by the RN, to prevent patients from wandering or potential injury.
  • Enter patient care orders into the computer accurately and consistently according to policy and procedure.
  • Collaborate with other departments to coordinate exams and treatments, minimizing fragmentation and enhancing patient satisfaction.
Requirements
  • High School diploma or equivalency preferred.
  • Active Nebraska Certified Nursing Assistant (CNA) credential required.
  • Six (6) months CNA experience preferred.
  • Basic Life Support (CPR) certification required.
