The Patient Care Technician is a vital member of the patient care team, responsible for providing direct patient care as an unlicensed professional under the supervision of a Registered Nurse (RN). This role incorporates the primary functions of a certified nursing assistant (CNA) and other duties related to patient care, dependent on the work area and patient population.
Key Responsibilities- Emergency Procedures: Recognize and respond to emergency situations according to role and policies/procedures.
- Referral of Physician Orders: Refer all physician telephone orders to a licensed professional.
- Patient Care Tasks: Assist with patient care tasks, including bathing, feeding, vital sign measurement, and ambulation, according to identified age-specific patient needs.
- Charting and Documentation: Accurately and consistently enter patient care orders into the computer according to policy and procedure.
- Team Collaboration: Collaborate with other departments to coordinate exams and treatments, minimizing fragmentation and enhancing patient satisfaction.
High School diploma or equivalency preferred. Active Nebraska Certified Nursing Assistant (CNA) credential required. Six (6) months CNA experience preferred. If assigned to the Emergency Department, may have an EMT certification in place of CNA.
Certifications: Basic Life Support (CPR) certification required.
