Position Overview:

The Radiologic Imaging Specialist is responsible for capturing x-ray images of specific areas of the human anatomy for diagnostic evaluation and supporting the imaging department. This role encompasses performing standard radiographic exams, fluoroscopy, portable imaging, and operating room procedures, as well as Bone Density assessments (BD certification required).

Key Responsibilities:

PRIMARY DUTIES

  • Clarifies procedures to patients to ensure comprehension and provides relevant educational resources.
  • Safely transports patients to and from examination areas, confirming their identity in accordance with established protocols. Prepares patients for imaging by positioning them appropriately.
  • Adheres to radiation safety standards to minimize unnecessary exposure to patients.
  • Prepares and administers contrast agents and medications within the scope of practice and regulatory guidelines.
  • Monitors patients during imaging procedures and reports any unusual findings. Reviews protocols and suggests improvements as necessary.
  • Ensures timely submission of high-quality images and documentation to the PACS system, maintaining accuracy in lead markers and patient information.
  • Checks that imaging equipment is functioning correctly and reports any issues to the relevant personnel. Implements lockout/tagout procedures when necessary.
  • Maintains a clean and organized work environment, including examination rooms and storage areas.
  • May conduct limited CT scans in emergency situations when a CT Technologist is unavailable.
  • Operates in a state of constant alertness and adheres to safety protocols.
  • Performs additional tasks as assigned.

Qualifications:

EDUCATION

  • Associate's degree or completion of a radiology certification program.

EXPERIENCE

  • No prior experience necessary.

PHYSICAL DEMANDS

  • Regularly required to stand and walk.
  • Frequent use of vision for near and far distances.
  • Regularly uses hearing and speech for effective communication.
  • Frequent lifting and moving of patients and objects weighing up to 25 lbs.
  • Occasional lifting of heavier objects (25-50 lbs).
  • Occasional bending, stooping, and repetitive movements.

CERTIFICATIONS REQUIRED:

  • Basic Life Support HealthCare Provider (BLS HCP) - American Heart Association (AHA)
  • Radiologic Technologists Certification - Illinois Emergency Management Agency (IEMA)
  • ARRT-R Radiography - American Registry of Radiologic Technologists (ARRT)
  • ARRT-BD Bone Density - American Registry of Radiologic Technologists (ARRT)
