Hazardous Materials Management Supervisor

Overview

The role involves overseeing chemical management and disposal services for both hazardous and non-hazardous substances. This position is critical in ensuring compliance with environmental regulations and safety standards.

Key Responsibilities

  1. Conduct regular inspections and audits to evaluate compliance with hazardous materials storage and waste management regulations.
  2. Classify, segregate, label, and package hazardous and non-hazardous materials in accordance with federal and state guidelines.
  3. Provide training to laboratory and production personnel on safe chemical handling and relevant environmental legislation.
  4. Respond to chemical spills and execute cleanup operations effectively.
  5. Prepare necessary shipping documentation and manage the transportation of chemical products and hazardous waste.
  6. Consolidate hazardous materials through processes such as bulking and repackaging.
  7. Offer expert guidance on governmental regulations, health and safety protocols, and proper disposal techniques.
  8. Perform additional duties as required.

Qualifications

  • Bachelor's degree in Environmental Science, Chemistry, or a related field.
  • Experience in hazardous waste classification and management is preferred.
  • Familiarity with DOT, EPA, and OSHA regulations is advantageous.
  • Must be able to obtain a commercial driver's license within 90 days of employment.
  • Willingness to wear and utilize personal protective equipment (PPE) as necessary.
  • Must pass a pre-employment physical, drug screening, and background check.
  • Completion of OSHA HAZWOPER 40-hour training is required.

Skills and Abilities

The successful candidate will possess strong interpersonal skills, demonstrating patience and tact. A cooperative and friendly demeanor is essential when interacting with colleagues, management, and clients. Effective communication with all levels of staff is crucial.

Work Environment

This position may involve exposure to maintenance areas that require adherence to OSHA safety protocols.
