The Clinical Informatics Specialist (CIS) plays a crucial role within the Information Technology Team. Reporting directly to the Director of Information Services, the CIS collaborates closely with the Chief Nursing Officer and the Nursing Administrative Team. This position is pivotal in managing the operations related to the implementation, delivery, and ongoing maintenance of the electronic medical records (EMR) system and its associated applications.
Key Responsibilities
The CIS is tasked with developing and executing educational programs aimed at enhancing the clinical use of the EMR across various disciplines. Working alongside clinical departments, the CIS ensures that clinical applications align with quality care standards and regulatory compliance. Acting as a liaison between clinical users and the IT Department, the CIS facilitates effective communication regarding user requirements and system functionalities.
Additionally, the CIS is responsible for the development of new EMR applications as required. This role includes serving as the Meaningful Use Coordinator, overseeing data collection for reporting purposes, and managing the functions and structure of the Meaningful Use committee.

Key qualifications include:
- A comprehensive understanding of nursing documentation, standards of care, and clinical workflows.
- A passion for teaching computer skills to clinical staff.
- Experience in consulting and collaborating with healthcare professionals to enhance patient care.
- Basic computer proficiency and a willingness to learn various computer systems.
The CIS will also provide education to clinical nurses, physicians, patients, and families regarding the functionalities and capabilities of computer systems as needed.
Qualifications
Applicants should have a minimum of 2 years of experience in informatics technology, with a solid understanding of patient care processes and documentation. An Associate's degree is required, while a Bachelor's degree is preferred.
Licensure
Current and active Registered Nurse license in the state of Tennessee is mandatory.
