Description

SUMMARY: As a Controls Specialist II at Plasma-Therm, you will provide comprehensive hardware and software support, leveraging your expertise in mechanical, electromechanical, and software engineering. You will coordinate system integration activities to drive system development and ensure seamless operation.

DUTIES AND RESPONSIBILITIES:Engineering
  • Research and analyze integration of new components into existing products, adhering to process requirements and specifications provided by systems and software engineering.
  • Operate software test stands for benchmarking robotics and wafer transfer issues.
  • Assist in optimization and throughput characterization and analysis.
  • Provide support to software and project engineers in developing new hardware and software solutions.
  • Develop retrofits to upgrade customers' existing control system hardware sets.
  • Collaborate with vendors on component failures and continuous improvement.
Testing
  • Organize test plans created by software developers and utilize them to test software.
  • Identify software defects to the module level.
  • Test software releases before final approval for shipment is issued.
  • Test and set up new and used hardware prior to shipment to customers.
Documentation
  • Archive and update internal design documentation.
  • Maintain records detailing software version and configuration history for each system.
  • Interface with technical writing staff to assist with documentation delivered to customers.
  • Maintain electronic documentation installed on customer tools.
  • Create work instructions for various tasks (e.g., installing/upgrading software or hardware, etc.).
Manufacturing
  • Generate software configuration files for systems.
  • Install software and configuration files on hardware.
  • Verify performance of installed software and configuration files.
  • Troubleshoot and assist in the correction of any identified controls-related issues on tools.
Support
  • Develop scripts for automating tasks such as software installation.
  • Install and maintain products remotely or at user's site.
  • Perform modifications or retrofits as needed.
  • Consult with Field Service Engineers and Customers concerning maintenance and upgrades to the control system.
  • Test and perform failure analysis on returned components.
  • Maintain software upgrade/change schedules.
  • Rebuild or repair customers' defective computer hardware.
General
  • Maintain complete and detailed knowledge of assigned products and applications.
  • Perform other duties as assigned.

SUPERVISORY RESPONSIBILITIES: NoneQUALIFICATIONS:
  • Associate Degree in science or engineering.
  • Minimum five (5) years of related experience or an equivalent combination of education and experience.
RequirementsSKILLS AND ABILITIES:
  • Understanding of real-time systems very helpful. Knowledge of the semiconductor industry a definite plus. Good analytical and organizational skills needed. Need familiarity (comfort level) working with complex equipment. Experience writing test plans/procedures/reports required.
  • Excellent knowledge of system builds and software installs.
  • Ability to interpret specifications, drawings, schematics, technical journals, and papers, and other related material.
  • Ability to communicate effectively internally and externally with customers and vendors.
  • Ability to develop technical reports and present technical material.
  • Computer architecture and hardware familiarity.
WORK ENVIRONMENT AND PHYSICAL DEMANDS:
  • The normal work environment is typical of a business office, manufacturing operation, with clean room and laboratory facility.
  • The incumbent is routinely required to sit, stand, walk, stoop, kneel, touch, see, and hear, and may be required to lift or move up to 25 pounds.
  • While performing the regular duties of the position, the incumbent may be exposed to moving mechanical parts, risk of electrical shock, and possible exposure to toxic or caustic chemicals. The incumbent must be able to wear safety equipment and follow safety instructions.
