Position Overview:

Gonzaga University seeks a dynamic and experienced educator to assume the role of Chair for the newly established Biomedical Engineering Department. This position is aimed at individuals who are committed to equity-minded teaching and possess a strong record of scholarship. The successful candidate will oversee the development of the undergraduate Biomedical Engineering program, which is set to launch soon. Responsibilities will include curriculum refinement, faculty recruitment, and guiding the program through accreditation processes.

The ideal candidate will hold a Ph.D. in Biomedical Engineering or a closely related field, with expertise across various research domains, whether experimental, computational, or theoretical. Key expectations include:

  1. Excellence in undergraduate teaching, with a focus on fostering an inclusive classroom environment.
  2. Active engagement in research that involves undergraduate students.
  3. Advising students, particularly those from underrepresented communities.
  4. Contributing to the academic community through service and governance.

Minimum Qualifications:

  • Ph.D. in Biomedical Engineering or a closely related technical field.
  • For Associate Professor candidates, a minimum of 7 years of experience at the Assistant Professor level or higher.
  • For Full Professor candidates, at least 5 years of experience at the Associate Professor level.
  • Demonstrated success in teaching and mentoring students from diverse backgrounds.
  • Proven ability to establish and manage a research program tailored for undergraduate involvement.

Desired Qualifications:

  • Strong record of undergraduate teaching.
  • Experience in engineering practice across academic, industry, or governmental sectors.
  • Experience with ABET or similar accreditation processes.
  • Administrative experience in an academic setting.
