Job Summary

STG Inc is seeking a skilled Laborer to join our construction team in Alaska. As a Laborer, you will work in support of skilled workers and perform manual labor to complete general construction tasks. Prior experience in Alaska's rural construction industry is preferred.

Essential Functions
  • Work closely with skilled trades and construction activities.
  • Follow directives from Project Foreman and take initiative to remain productive at work.
  • Perform physical labor that requires considerable use of arms and legs, including climbing, lifting, balancing, walking, and handling materials at construction sites.
  • Load, offload, move, and organize supplies, materials, tools, and small equipment at barge landings, airstrips, and on the job site.
  • Prepare work sites and maintain safe work sites.
  • Perform tasks for long hours, day after day, often in adverse conditions, to complete projects.
  • Perform grounding, weatherproofing, and testing of various systems.
  • Attend and participate in regular safety meetings.
  • Adhere to and perform duties pursuant to the Company-wide safety plan.
  • Report any incidents, situations, or activities that may affect the Company's ability to operate safely, ethically, and profitably to supervisor and the Company Safety Manager.
  • Conduct oneself in the best interest of the company while on the job or representing STG.
  • Act as a team member and mentor less experienced laborers.
  • Cooking and cleaning as necessary in shared living quarters.
  • Maintain consistent and punctual attendance.
  • Maintain any required certifications mandatory by law or company policy.
  • Work as a team-player with co-workers in a respectful and supportive manner.
  • Seek and participate in development and on-the-job training opportunities.
  • Work in a constant state of alertness and in a safe manner.
  • Perform other duties as assigned.
Supervisory Functions

This position has no supervisory responsibilities.

Knowledge, Skills, & Abilities
  • All-around knowledge of materials, terms, and practices in the construction field.
  • Proficiency with hand and power tools.
  • Ability to gain basic knowledge of rigging protocols and hand signals.
  • Ability to safely utilize electronic test equipment and other specialized tools in performance of duties.
  • Skill in organizing resources, establishing priorities, meeting deadlines, and general time management.
  • Ability to work in a team environment, take direction from supervisor(s), and other crew members, with a high degree of attention to details, follow work rules, and adhere to project schedule.
  • Ability to actively listen and follow instructions.
  • Ability to work productively under pressure.
  • Strong self-motivation and work ethic; ability to work with or without direct supervision.
  • Ability to read and interpret documents such as safety rules, regulations, instruction manuals, blueprints, and specifications.
  • Ability to participate in group meetings.
  • Ability to travel to remote places for work-related purposes (up to 100% of time).
  • Ability to report to work consistently, on time, and work a flexible schedule, up to 12 hours per day, 7 days a week.
  • Ability to live and work with co-workers in close quarters and keep good morale.
Qualifications
  • High School Diploma or equivalent.
  • One-year experience in the construction field preferred.
  • First Aid/CPR training or ability to become certified.
  • Rigger/Signalperson certification preferred.
  • Heavy equipment experience preferred.
  • Preference to have a valid state driver's license and qualified to operate a vehicle under the conditions of STG's Driving Policy.
  • Ability to pass a drug, driving (if applicable), and background screening.
