Job Summary

Brown University is seeking a highly skilled and experienced HVAC Supervisor to join our Facilities Management and Campus Operations team. As a key member of our team, you will be responsible for supervising the installation, repair, and maintenance of HVAC systems and equipment, ensuring compliance with codes, department instructions, and quality standards.

Key Responsibilities
  • Supervise and manage staff in a union environment
  • Oversee the day-to-day activities of the shop, including quality control and quality assurance
  • Contribute expertise to departmental initiatives and projects
  • Assign, lay out, and supervise the work of skilled and semi-skilled maintenance workers
  • Make accurate labor and material cost estimates
  • Analyze maintenance, repair, and construction data to make recommendations on safety, quality, and efficiency
  • Supervise, train, and evaluate the work of others
  • Support a diverse and inclusive environment
  • Read, interpret, apply, and explain rules, regulations, policies, and procedures
  • Complete accurate records, including time and material costs
  • Knowledge of applicable federal, state, and local codes
  • Knowledge of supervisory principles, practices, and techniques
Requirements
  • High School Diploma or GED required
  • 7 years of experience, with at least 5 years managing staff
  • Managing staff in a union environment preferred
  • Considerable knowledge of the methods, practices, tools, and materials of the trade
  • Skill in the installation, repair, and maintenance of all types of HVAC systems
  • Ability to read blueprints, plans, and specifications
  • Ability to analyze maintenance, repair, and construction data and make recommendations
  • Ability to supervise, train, and evaluate the work of others
  • Excellent communications skills
  • Excellent time management skills
  • Excellent organizational skills
  • Excellent customer service skills
