We are seeking a highly skilled and experienced Vehicle Operations Specialist to join our team at the Texas Department of Aging & Disability Services. As a key member of our Regional Administrative Services team, you will be responsible for ensuring the safe and efficient delivery of materials, equipment, and supplies to our offices throughout the region.
Key Responsibilities:
- Drive and maintain state agency vehicles, including panel trucks and cargo vans, to deliver and pick up large items such as furniture, filing cabinets, and equipment.
- Provide mail pickup and small package delivery services to our offices in the region.
- Perform shipping and receiving duties in the warehouse and regional mailroom, including receiving, inspecting, and processing packages.
- Operate warehouse equipment such as forklifts, pallet jacks, and dollies to move and store materials and supplies.
- Assemble and install furniture and equipment ordered by and delivered to our customers.
- Assist with office moves by carrying, loading, transporting, and unloading office contents between our office locations.
- Oversee and direct activities of contractors hired for moves and modular furniture installation.
- Function as a member of the Regional Disaster Deployment Team in delivering, setting up, and monitoring emergency equipment to disaster areas.
Requirements:
- Knowledge of motor vehicle operations and basic maintenance, including safe cargo loading and unloading methods.
- Knowledge of State and Federal traffic rules and regulations for cargo and mail delivery.
- Knowledge of warehousing procedures, including safe use of motorized equipment for moving and securing materials.
- Ability to operate specialized equipment such as a postage meter, copier equipment, bindery equipment, or similar.
- Ability to understand and utilize documentation systems such as CAPPS and CAFM.
- Ability to lift, pull, push, and/or carry 50 pounds.
- Ability to perform basic building maintenance or repair such as painting, caulking, changing light bulbs.
- Ability to follow verbal and written directions for completing tasks, assembling basic items.
- Ability to communicate effectively orally and in writing.
- Ability to develop and maintain effective working relationships with customers, peers, and managers.
Working Conditions:
This position requires the ability to work in a fast-paced environment, with frequent travel to various locations throughout the region. The successful candidate will be required to work extended hours and in a variety of environments, both inside and outside.
Education and Experience:
A high school diploma or equivalent is required. A minimum of 2 years of experience in a related field, such as materials management, logistics, or transportation, is preferred.
