Job Summary:
We are seeking a highly skilled and experienced Vehicle Driver III to join our team at the Texas Department of Aging & Disability Services. As a key member of our Regional Administrative Services team, you will be responsible for delivering and picking up large items, such as furniture, equipment, and supplies, to various HHS offices throughout the region.

Key Responsibilities:
  • Drive and inspect state agency trucks and cargo vans to deliver and pick up large items, ensuring safe and efficient loading, unloading, and delivery of cargo.
  • Responsible for evaluating multiple delivery locations to determine the most cost-effective and time-saving route to travel, considering roadways, traffic, and safety.
  • Perform minor vehicle repairs, such as flat tire changes, while en route, and monitor vehicle maintenance records to ensure vehicles are in good operating condition.
  • Update vehicle logs with mileage, refueling, and maintenance performed, and compile data from logs to submit monthly vehicle reports for entry into the fleet management system.
  • Perform shipping and receiving duties in the warehouse and regional mailroom, including physical receipt and inspection of packages, providing signature and confirmation of acceptable delivery.
  • Document receipt of purchased items using the CAPPS Financial system, confirming that items received match the original purchase order.
  • Identify intended recipients of warehouse/mailroom package deliveries, and arrange the routing and delivery of packages to HHS customers at their work location.
  • Research misrouted mail to determine appropriate recipient and ensure proper delivery.
  • Process outgoing mail and shipping of packages, determining appropriate shipping method, weighing and affixing postage/shipping label, and arranging for pickup.
  • Operate warehouse equipment, such as forklifts, pallet jacks, and dollies, to safely and efficiently store and transport materials, equipment, and supplies.
  • Assemble and install furniture and equipment ordered by and delivered to HHS customers, adjusting modular furniture installations to adapt to customer needs.
  • Perform minor building repairs and maintenance, such as painting, plumbing fixture adjustments, and ceiling tile replacement.
  • Assist with office moves by carrying, loading, transporting, and unloading office contents between HHS office locations.
  • Oversee and direct activities of contractors hired for moves and modular furniture installation.
  • Function as a member of the Regional Disaster Deployment Team, delivering, setting up, and monitoring emergency equipment to disaster areas.

Requirements:
  • Knowledge of motor vehicle operations and basic maintenance, including safe cargo loading and unloading methods.
  • Knowledge of State and Federal traffic rules and regulations for cargo and mail delivery.
  • Knowledge of warehousing procedures, including safe use of motorized equipment for moving and securing materials.
  • Ability to obey State and Federal traffic laws and follow safe practices in loading and unloading cargo.
  • Ability to prepare accurate records documenting vehicle maintenance, mileage, and usage, compiling data and performing basic mathematical computations.
  • Ability to operate specialized equipment, such as a postage meter, copier equipment, bindery equipment, or similar.
  • Ability to understand and utilize documentation systems, such as CAPPS and CAFM.
  • Ability to operate warehouse equipment, such as forklifts, pallet jacks, and dollies.
  • Ability to lift, pull, push, and/or carry 50 pounds.
  • Ability to perform basic building maintenance or repair, such as painting, caulking, changing light bulbs.
  • Ability to follow verbal and written directions for completing tasks, assembling basic items.
  • Ability to communicate effectively orally and in writing.
  • Ability to develop and maintain effective working relationships with customers, peers, and managers.
  • Ability to travel locally and across the state, which can include overnight stays.
