Job Description

Job Summary: We are seeking a highly skilled Curriculum Specialist to join our team at Sheltering Arms. The successful candidate will be responsible for ensuring quality education standards, acting as a role model in teaching techniques, discipline, and professional growth and development, and serving as a liaison between teaching staff and center management.

Key Responsibilities:

  1. Observe classrooms using Sheltering Arms classroom observation forms, monthly focus checklists, NAEYC, ITERS, ECERS, CLASS, RRFTS, and other related curriculum observation checklists.
  2. Assist teachers in self-evaluation and goal setting, follow up on previous goals, and provide coaching for developmentally appropriate practice.
  3. Model and provide coaching for developmentally appropriate practice for teachers in the classrooms.
  4. Meet regularly as part of the management team to share concerns and progress.
  5. Conduct lead teacher meetings at least twice a month.
  6. Assist Center Director in establishing agenda for staff meeting.
  7. Assist Center Director and Lead Teachers in conducting new teacher orientation.
  8. Assist Center Director with classroom teacher performance appraisals.
  9. Check lesson plans weekly and give feedback and approval.
  10. Work one-on-one with classroom staff to foster continued professional growth and development.
  11. Keep track of educational materials and make them available to staff as needed.
  12. Ensure that resource and supply areas are organized and orderly.
  13. Checks classroom inventories and assists Center Director in ordering appropriate materials.
  14. Provides onsite staff training for teachers and parents and assists with area and agency training.
  15. Follows up with teachers who have received training to ensure implementation in the classroom.
  16. Trains staff on and monitors developmental assessment data entry and use in weekly lesson plans.
  17. Meets regularly with Director Of Curriculum and Instruction to share curriculum concerns and assist in development of curriculum materials necessary for the implementation of the educational program.
  18. Participates in staff and parent meetings, as needed.
  19. Keeps informed of current information on child development by reading and attending conferences and workshops.

Requirements:

  • Must be able to lift at least 50 lbs.
  • Must be able to visually observe and hear children from all areas of the classroom and playground from a distance of at least 70 feet.
  • High degree of oral and written communication skills.
  • Must be able to hear children from a distance of at least 70 feet.
  • Must be able to sit on floor and interact with children.
  • Minimum of five years classroom experience with children birth to five.
  • Two years of experience supervising adults in a child care & education setting.
  • Experience with adult education.
  • Willingness to work as a team member of a team.

Education, Training, and Experience:

  • Bachelor's degree (or equivalent) in Early Childhood Education or closely related field and three years administrative or supervisory experience.
  • Masters in Early Childhood Education or closely related field and 1 year administrative or supervisory experience.

Travel to various center locations may be required.
