Job Summary

The Curriculum Specialist plays a vital role in ensuring the quality of education standards at our center. This position serves as a role model for teaching techniques, discipline, and professional growth and development. The Specialist acts as a liaison between teaching staff and center management, maintaining center resource and supply areas. They also serve as a member of the Center Management Team, taking responsibility for center operations in the absence of the Center Director and Family Support Coach.

Key Responsibilities:

  1. Observe classrooms using Sheltering Arms classroom observation forms, monthly focus checklists, NAEYC, ITERS, ECERS, CLASS, RRFTS, and other related curriculum observation checklists.
  2. Assist teachers in self-evaluation and goal setting, following up on previous goals.
  3. Provide technical assistance and mentorship to teachers in classrooms when needed.
  4. Model and provide coaching for developmentally appropriate practice for teachers in the classrooms.
  5. Meet regularly with the management team to share concerns and progress.
  6. Conduct lead teacher meetings at least twice a month.
  7. Assist the Center Director in establishing the agenda for staff meetings.
  8. Assist the Center Director and Lead Teachers in conducting new teacher orientation.
  9. Assist the Center Director with classroom teacher performance appraisals.
  10. Check lesson plans weekly and provide feedback and approval.
  11. Work one-on-one with classroom staff to foster continued professional growth and development.
  12. Keep track of educational materials and make them available to staff as needed.
  13. Ensure that resource and supply areas are organized and orderly.
  14. Check classroom inventories and assist the Center Director in ordering appropriate materials.
  15. Provide onsite staff training for teachers and parents and assist with area and agency training.
  16. Follow up with teachers who have received training to ensure implementation in the classroom.
  17. Train staff on and monitor developmental assessment data entry and use in weekly lesson plans.
  18. Meet regularly with the Director of Curriculum and Instruction to share curriculum concerns and assist in the development of curriculum materials.
  19. Participate in staff and parent meetings as needed.
  20. Stay informed of current information on child development by reading and attending conferences and workshops.

Requirements:

  • Must be able to lift at least 50 lbs.
  • Must be able to visually observe and hear children from all areas of the classroom and playground from a distance of at least 70 feet.
  • High degree of oral and written communication skills.
  • Must be able to hear children from a distance of at least 70 feet.
  • Must be able to sit on the floor and interact with children.
  • Minimum of five years of classroom experience with children birth to five.
  • Two years of experience supervising adults in a child care and education setting.
  • Experience with adult education.
  • Willingness to work as a team member of a team.

Education, Training, and Experience:

  • Bachelor's degree (or equivalent) in Early Childhood Education or a closely related field and three years of administrative or supervisory experience.
  • Masters in Early Childhood Education or a closely related field and one year of administrative or supervisory experience.
