Position Title: Support Specialist for Space Operations and Telescope Systems

The Center for Space Situational Awareness Research (CSSAR) within the Department of Physics and Meteorology is dedicated to providing exceptional education and research in space situational awareness (SSA) for both cadets and faculty. To enhance the development and operation of the Cadet Space Operations Center (CSOC) and Falcon Telescope Network (FTN), we seek a contractor to deliver Systems Engineering and Technical Assistance (SETA) along with project management support.
Key Responsibilities
- Provide project management assistance for the FTN and CSOC initiatives, including:
- Coordinating with collaborators and personnel through various communication channels regarding FTN and CSOC matters.
- Participating in regular meetings to discuss project progress and requirements.
- Assisting in the creation of program documentation and reports, including procedures, agreements, and experimental plans.
- Supporting equipment procurement by identifying vendors and facilitating purchase requests to ensure a well-equipped research environment.
Technical Support for FTN and CSOC Development
The contractor will also be responsible for providing technical guidance and support to ensure the FTN and CSOC are capable of automated operations. Key tasks include:
- Installation, setup, and calibration of FTN equipment, including domes and telescope systems.
- Conducting tests and troubleshooting for FTN/CSOC systems.
- Assisting in the automation of telescope operations through scripting and development of web services.
- Facilitating network integration between FTN and CSOC.
Deliverables
- Draft program documents and reports as outlined in the project scope.
- Reports are to be submitted on a mutually agreed schedule, with a minimum of two business days for draft revisions.
- Feedback from the government will be provided within a specified timeframe, with expectations for timely revisions.
Qualifications
Skills: Contractor personnel must possess:
- Ability to thrive in a dynamic, quasi-academic environment with military standards.
- Proficiency in Microsoft Office and Adobe software.
Experience: A minimum of three years in:
- Working with telescopes, web services, and automated systems.
- Experience with robotic telescopes or the Falcon Telescope Network.
Education: A bachelor’s degree in physics, astronomy, computer science, or engineering is required.
