Job Overview

Position Summary:
In this role, you will engage in a range of skilled and semi-skilled technical tasks related to the management, upkeep, and operation of wastewater treatment facilities and systems.


Supervision:
You will operate under the general oversight of the Chief Plant Operator for Wastewater.


Key Responsibilities:

  1. Ensure the mechanical systems are maintained in optimal working condition and operate the systems to achieve the highest possible treatment standards given the current load conditions.
  2. Comprehend the various treatment processes within the facility, including monitoring practices to assess operational efficiency and making necessary adjustments to enhance treatment outcomes.
  3. Stay updated on the latest operational and maintenance methodologies by participating in training sessions and maintaining relevant certifications.
  4. Regularly consult technical journals focused on wastewater treatment to remain informed about industry standards and practices.
  5. Understand and adhere to regulatory requirements regarding effluent quality, reporting standards, emergency notifications, and permit renewals.
  6. Maintain accurate records related to operational and maintenance procedures.
  7. Exercise sound judgment in managing operational expenditures.
  8. Consistently apply safety protocols associated with facility operations.
  9. Perform additional duties as necessary to ensure the successful functioning of the department.

Qualifications:

  1. High school diploma or GED equivalent is required.
  2. A minimum of two years of experience in a wastewater facility or a combination of education and experience is preferred.
  3. Must obtain a Texas Class D Wastewater Certification within one year of hire and a Class C Wastewater Certification within three years.
  4. A valid Texas driver's license rated Class 'B' CDL or the ability to obtain one within six months of employment is necessary.

Skills and Abilities:
Candidates should possess:

  • Knowledge of hand and power tools, along with a basic understanding of chemistry and mechanical systems.
  • The ability to follow written and oral instructions effectively.
  • Strong problem-solving skills in standardized situations.
  • Effective communication skills for presenting information clearly to various audiences.
  • Physical capability to perform essential job functions under varying conditions.

Work Environment:
This position involves working near moving mechanical parts and in various weather conditions. Employees may be exposed to wet or humid environments, noise, and potential hazards associated with wastewater treatment operations.
