Job Summary

We are seeking a skilled Laborer-Drainage to join our team at the City of Copperas Cove. As a key member of our drainage maintenance crew, you will be responsible for performing a variety of tasks related to the construction, operation, repair, maintenance, and replacement of City drainage facilities and systems.

Key Responsibilities
  • Operate a variety of equipment, including trucks, tractors, and power tools, to perform drainage maintenance and repair tasks.
  • Perform routine inspection and preventive maintenance on assigned equipment and refer defects or needed repairs to supervisor.
  • Drive trucks of various sizes and weights in the loading, hauling, and unloading of equipment, gravel, rock, and sand.
  • Perform labor involved in construction and maintenance projects as part of a crew.
  • Inspect and repair drainage systems at frequent intervals to ensure proper functioning.
  • Use weed eaters, pole saws, and chain saws to trim trees, brush, and vegetation.
  • Mix concrete and perform repair work as needed.
Requirements
  • Graduation from high school or equivalent.
  • One year of light equipment operation and maintenance experience.
  • Ability to work safely and effectively in a fast-paced outdoor environment.
  • Ability to communicate effectively verbally and in writing.
  • Ability to establish and maintain effective working relationships with employees, other departments, and the public.
Working Conditions

The work environment is primarily outdoors, with frequent exposure to weather conditions, vibrations, and other hazards associated with an outside work environment. The noise level is usually loud, and the employee may be required to work in wet or humid conditions, in high and precarious places, with fumes or airborne particles, toxic and caustic chemicals, and the risk of electrical shock.
