Job Title: Principal Mechanical Engineer I

CesiumAstro is seeking a highly skilled Principal Mechanical Engineer I to join our Mechanical Engineering team. As a key member of our team, you will be responsible for designing and developing mechanical systems for our space-based communication systems.

Key Responsibilities:
  • Design and develop mechanical systems for space-based communication systems, including antennas, subsystems, and interfaces.
  • Conduct mechanical analysis, electronics packaging, computer-aided design (CAD), and thermal architecture for spacecraft propulsion systems.
  • Develop and implement mechanical designs from concept through space flight, including requirements definition, architecture trades, and block diagrams.
  • Present engineering design review materials to customers and executive teams, and participate in proposal-writing efforts.
Requirements and Qualifications:
  • Bachelor of Science (BS) in Mechanical or Aerospace Engineering from an accredited university or institution.
  • Minimum of 9 years of experience in space antenna and payload mechanical engineering, including electronics packaging, thermal, shock, vibration, stress dynamics, and cost.
  • Experience with professional mechanical and FEA CAD tools, such as Ansys Mechanical, SolidWorks Simulation, and Thermal Desktop.
  • Experience with CNC manufacturing and GD&T.
  • Experience with advanced aerospace manufacturing and materials, including sandwich panels and carbon composites.
Preferred Experience:
  • Python, C++, or other programming languages.
  • Experience with large, deployable antenna arrays and robotics and control systems.
  • PCBA experience.
