Job Overview

Position Summary

The Traffic Technician is accountable for a variety of responsibilities related to traffic engineering initiatives, including the collection and evaluation of traffic flow metrics, the creation of analytical reports, and the formulation of suggestions for project enhancements. This role involves executing designated engineering tasks for the design and drafting of plans, as well as conducting design calculations for assigned projects.

Key Responsibilities

  • Establish, calibrate, and manage traffic data collection instruments at various sites.
  • Assess vehicular and pedestrian traffic through video monitoring systems, pneumatic tubes, and/or magnetic traffic counters.
  • Monitor, document, and evaluate data concerning traffic patterns, accidents, signal functionality, and pedestrian activity in the field at designated project sites.
  • Interpret data from diverse sources and provide recommendations grounded in established engineering principles.
  • Execute drafting tasks to create construction plans or to illustrate topographical maps or traffic flow diagrams.
  • Gather and scrutinize data while reviewing traffic information received from field teams for accuracy.
  • Maintain a precise database for all collected traffic data.
  • Service and repair data collection devices as necessary.
  • Create visual aids such as graphs, charts, and diagrams to represent findings and conclusions.
  • Generate design concepts, details, and drawings utilizing CADD technology.
  • Prepare construction cost estimates, reports, and specifications using relevant software.
  • Compile project deliverables, including plans, specifications, reports, and cost assessments.
  • Apply relevant standards of practice to develop civil, transportation, structural, and/or site engineering plans and project documentation.
  • Collaborate with various disciplines and CADD personnel as required to fulfill assigned duties.
  • Conduct field investigations and construction oversight as assigned.
  • Perform additional tasks as necessary.
  • Must be capable of lifting weights up to 50 lbs.
  • Willingness to travel up to 30-40% of the time.

Qualifications

  • Bachelor's or Master's degree in Civil Engineering.
  • 0-3 years of relevant experience.
  • Valid Driver's License.
  • Ability to adapt to a non-standard work schedule to accommodate project/client needs.
  • Engineer Intern (E.I.) certification or the capability to obtain it within six months of employment.
  • Proven ability to exercise sound engineering judgment.
  • Proficient computer skills and familiarity with traffic engineering and CADD software preferred.
  • Strong communication skills and proficiency in writing technical reports.
  • Demonstrated ability to effectively present findings and recommendations.
