Position Summary:
The Chief Operations Officer will collaborate closely with the Senior Pastor to establish and execute the necessary processes and systems that underpin the mission and ministry of the organization. This role encompasses leadership through management and oversight, strategic planning, evaluation, and facilities management. The individual will continuously enhance and oversee efficient operational functions including administration, finance, legal, IT, human resources, security, and physical infrastructure.
Key Responsibilities:
- Financial Oversight and Strategy
- Supervise budgeting, strategic planning, financial forecasting, accounting, and cash flow for administration and ongoing programs.
- Review and authorize the preparation and finalization of monthly and annual financial reports.
- Ensure adherence to sound bookkeeping and accounting practices.
- Manage the organization’s funds in accordance with the approved budget and the culture of generosity.
- Monitor monthly cash flow effectively.
- Ensure compliance with all relevant taxation and withholding regulations.
- Coordinate all audit-related activities.
- Maintain a comprehensive and accurate inventory of all organizational assets.
- Operational Leadership
- Continuously refine, manage, and enhance operational systems and policies to align with the strategic direction of the organization.
- Oversee the technology infrastructure and IT contractors to ensure effective management of all technological resources.
- Manage the physical infrastructure and maintenance systems, ensuring improvements and renovations are executed as needed.
- Act as the primary liaison with vendors involved in operational functions.
- Seek legal counsel as necessary and ensure proper management of legal documentation.
- Develop and implement a long-term strategic plan for the organization.
- Ensure compliance with all relevant laws and recordkeeping requirements.
- Oversee all human resources functions.
- Manage relationships with security contractors and volunteers to maintain a safe environment.
- Foster a positive and safe workplace in accordance with applicable regulations.
- Assess staffing needs for effective management and program delivery.
- Identify and mitigate risks to the organization.
- Participate as a member of the Executive Leadership Team.
- Staff Supervision
- Collaborate with direct reports to develop strategic operational systems that reflect the organization’s mission and values.
- Ensure each direct report has a current, documented performance plan.
- Conduct regular meetings with direct reports to promote healthy spiritual growth and effective ministry.
- Perform periodic evaluations of each direct report’s performance.
- Ensure effective budget management by each direct report.
- Maintain a culture of staff development and support.
Qualifications:
- Preferred: Bachelor’s degree, MBA.
- 10+ years of experience in financial and administrative management.
- A personal, growing relationship with Jesus Christ that exemplifies the teachings and beliefs of the organization.
- Strong understanding of church management principles and operational experience.
- Strong moral and spiritual qualifications.
- Desire to support team members and facilitate their success.
- Proven experience in financial management, ideally within the nonprofit sector.
- Commitment to the mission, vision, and values of the organization.
- Resourcefulness in prioritizing tasks and creating efficiencies.
- Proficient in Microsoft Office; knowledge of databases is a plus.
Working Environment:
This position operates in a standard office environment, utilizing standard office equipment.
Physical Requirements:
Ability to exert up to 50 pounds of force occasionally, and/or up to 20 pounds of force frequently, and/or up to 10 pounds of force constantly to move objects.
Direct Reports:
Assistant Director of Operations, Accounting Manager, HR Manager, Guest Services Leader.
