Job Summary

The Dankwa Lab at UMass Amherst is seeking a highly motivated Research Fellow to contribute to ongoing research projects and support the lab's general research efforts. The lab focuses on understanding the molecular basis of severe malaria pathogenesis, employing a range of cellular and molecular biology approaches, as well as machine learning tools.

Key Responsibilities
  • Maintain primary cell lines and parasite cultures
  • Conduct experiments with malaria parasites and primary cell lines
  • Collect, analyze, and present data
  • Prepare media and reagents
  • Order and organize lab supplies and reagents
Requirements
  • B.S. or B.A. in Biology, Biochemistry, Microbiology, or a related field
  • 1-2 years of laboratory experience or a related Master's degree
  • Ability to work independently and collaboratively as part of a research team
  • Proficiency in Microsoft Excel, Word, and PowerPoint
  • Excellent organizational skills and a willingness to learn
Preferred Qualifications
  • Experience in basic molecular and cell biology techniques
  • Experience in microbiology techniques, including sterile technique and culturing of microbes
  • Experience in fluorescence/confocal microscopy
Working Conditions

The Research Fellow will work in a lab environment, with typical work hours from 8:30am to 5:00pm on weekdays. However, research activities may require occasional work outside of these hours, including weekends, as part of the 40-hour work week.

Salary and Benefits

The salary for this position is $32-40k, commensurate with experience. UMass Amherst offers a comprehensive benefits package, including health insurance, retirement plans, and paid time off.
