Role Summary:
The Sustainability Specialist - Animal Welfare will actively support ALDI's initiatives and collaborations concerning animal welfare issues within the United States.

This position will involve collaboration with various departments, including procurement, legal, warehousing, and international sustainability, to oversee data management and collection.

Qualifications:
The ideal candidate will possess educational and/or professional experience in relevant fields such as Animal Sciences, animal welfare legislation at both state and federal levels, and sustainable practices in livestock and agriculture management.

Key Responsibilities:
The primary objective of this role is to bolster ALDI's responsible sourcing and sustainability initiatives while ensuring adherence to all applicable regulations. You will also provide strategic insights and project management for potential areas of further engagement.

  • Serve as a liaison among sustainability sub-teams and international counterparts.
  • Keep management informed about upcoming legislative, sustainability, and social issues.
  • Propose enhancements for processes within your area of responsibility.
  • Assist in training new staff members under the guidance of your direct supervisor.
  • Oversee reporting obligations for all teams, collaborating with relevant managers to ensure accurate submissions.
  • Maintain sustainability programs and protocols in alignment with management directives.
  • Conduct thorough research in your area of responsibility and generate reports/summaries outlining recommended actions.
  • Analyze data and provide recommendations to leadership regarding new initiatives that address emerging trends.
  • Stay informed about industry trends related to sustainability.
  • Support the development and understanding of the company's sustainability policies, objectives, and key performance indicators.
  • Work collaboratively with team members and communicate pertinent information to leadership.
  • Adhere to ALDI's privacy and security policies when handling confidential information.
  • Perform additional duties as assigned.

Required Skills and Experience:

  • Attention to detail and adherence to instructions.
  • Strong verbal and written communication abilities.
  • Effective time management skills to enhance productivity.
  • Ability to prepare written materials tailored to specific purposes and audiences.
  • Build and maintain positive relationships with both internal and external stakeholders.
  • Advanced proficiency in Excel and familiarity with Microsoft Office Suite.
  • Capability to analyze data and formulate recommendations based on findings.
  • Understanding of the company's products and services.
  • Knowledge of animal welfare legislation, production systems, and supply chains for animal products.

Educational Background:

  • Associate's Degree in Animal Science or a related discipline is required.
  • A minimum of three years of relevant experience is necessary.
  • Alternatively, a combination of education and experience that provides equivalent knowledge is acceptable.

Physical Requirements:

  • Work may be conducted in an office or remote setting, utilizing a computer and office equipment as needed.
  • Regularly required to sit, reach, grasp, stand, and move between areas.
  • Frequent use of keyboard and mouse is necessary.
  • Occasional lifting and moving of items up to 25 lbs may be required.

Travel Requirements:

  • Domestic travel may be necessary, up to 10% of the time.
