Job Summary

We are seeking a highly skilled and experienced Strategic Business Initiatives Manager to join our team at the Chicago Transit Authority. As a key member of our organization, you will be responsible for assessing technology requests, developing strategies, and leading cross-functional teams to implement end-to-end processes.

Key Responsibilities
  • Assess and Develop Strategies: Evaluate technology requests and develop feasible solutions, scope out large and complex initiatives, and lead teams to implement end-to-end processes.
  • Collect and Analyze Requirements: Gather business, technology, and project management requirements, assess feasibility, and determine solutions.
  • Develop Business Benefits and Resources: Create business benefits and resource requirements, and develop strategies to break down initiatives into charter, scope, risks, dependencies, and constraints.
  • Lead Initiative Teams: Serve as a point of contact for initiative sponsors, requestors, and stakeholders, represent Strategic Business Initiatives in initiative planning and implementation meetings, and develop relationships with business departments and deep understanding of business processes.
  • Act as Liaison and Advocate: Resolve problems, escalate issues for management attention, and act as an advocate for proposed solutions.
  • Coordinate with Departments: Work with SBI, Technology, and other internal departments to resolve process issues, taking into consideration department needs and constraints.
  • Research and Implement Best Practices: Research best practices for strategic business initiatives, work with technical architect, technical and business managers, and apply best practices to increase efficiency and effectiveness in proposed solutions.
  • Lead Process Improvement and Reengineering: Utilize proven process improvement and reengineering methodologies to define the need for change, support change, and make changes last.
  • Roll Out New Initiatives: Act as a lead role to roll out new or updated strategic business initiatives using proven program, project, and change management techniques.
  • Evaluate Success and Provide Recommendations: Confer with management to assess success of new and updated procedures, provide recommendations for improvement based on feedback, and evaluate effectiveness of new processes and changes implemented.
  • Develop and Utilize Data Collection Instruments: Develop and utilize appropriate data collection instruments and procedures to report project progress and success metrics.
  • Lead and Manage Departmental Staff: Plan, assign, and review work of departmental staff to ensure group objectives are met, hire, train, develop, and evaluate performance of staff, and review and recommend personnel actions for approval.
Requirements
  • Education and Experience: Bachelor's degree in technology, business management, or a related field, plus eight (8) years of experience in technology management, operational business management, logistics, or an equivalent combination of education and experience.
  • Valid Driver's License: Required.
Working Conditions
  • General Office Environment: Work in a general office environment with occasional travel to CTA field locations.
  • Extended or Irregular Hours: May be required to work various extended or irregular hours, including nights and weekends, to meet project deadlines.
