Job Summary

We are seeking a highly skilled Medical Assistant to join our team at Lone Star Family Health Center. As a Medical Assistant, you will play a vital role in providing direct patient care and supporting our healthcare team.

Key Responsibilities:

  • Ensure a safe and clean environment for patients and staff.
  • Perform pre-visit planning, initiate screening protocols, and identify tests and vaccines due per UDS measures and CDC immunization guidelines.
  • Prepare patients for examination, obtain vital signs, record reason for visit and history, perform medication reconciliation, verify allergies, pharmacy, and recent ER visits or hospital stays.
  • Perform blood draws, heel sticks, waived tests, and quality testing for waived tests after verifying accuracy of order and patient identification.
  • Prepare and label laboratory specimens completely per policy guidelines.
  • Monitor patient flow in and out of the clinic and communicate delays and expectations to medical providers and patients.
  • Facilitate continuity of care for patients and/or family with members of the healthcare team through scheduling appointments, phone contact, verbal interaction, written reports, and/or electronic messaging.
  • Assist with medication fills, obtaining DME, and referrals.
  • Chaperone for procedures such as breast or pelvic exams, and testicle checks for well-child visits and sports physicals.
  • Gather instruments and materials as appropriate for procedures needed at the visit, assist the medical provider as requested.
  • Clean and prepare instruments for sterilization using standard precautions. Follow policy for autoclave.
  • Adhere to infection control practices, hand hygiene, use of PPE, instrument and environment cleaning, biohazard waste disposal, and safe injection techniques. Maintain accurate patient medical records.
  • Assist the medical provider with translation and sending out patient communications.

Requirements:

  • Bilingual – English and Spanish.
  • High School diploma or general education degree (GED).

Preferred: Graduate of a Medical Assistant program.
