Berry Global, Inc. is seeking an Automation Systems Engineer to act as a technical resource for automation support in the design, development, and enhancement of control systems.

This role will involve supporting continuous improvement initiatives, including programming modifications for machinery and equipment, specifying and procuring new equipment, as well as overseeing equipment installation and startup.


Key Responsibilities:

The Automation Systems Engineer will be responsible for:

  • Designing, developing, installing, and upgrading control systems for designated manufacturing machinery and equipment;
  • Adhering to all ISO procedures;
  • Acting as a technical resource for automation in continuous improvement and capital projects;
  • Identifying and initiating projects that contribute to site objectives;
  • Providing support for PLC and drive systems for plant equipment, including but not limited to Siemens and Allen Bradley;
  • Assisting with Pi data collection software;
  • Creating electrical designs, schematics, and drawings using AutoCAD;
  • Documenting electrical modifications made to equipment (e.g., updating schematics, drawings, work instructions, etc.);
  • Interpreting mechanical design drawings to determine electrical requirements;
  • Reviewing, repairing, and redesigning legacy code;
  • Troubleshooting issues with existing systems;
  • Preparing corrective action plans for equipment identified as having potential failure risks;
  • Developing cost justifications for projects;
  • Promoting a culture of continuous improvement, quality, high performance, and process excellence;
  • Initiating and processing emergency work orders as necessary;
  • Staying updated on new equipment and assisting in training other technicians;
  • Ensuring compliance with all safety policies and procedures, fostering a "safety first" culture;
  • Being accountable for employee safety through active participation in safety initiatives and clear communication of safe work expectations;
  • Supporting investigations of equipment stoppages due to perceived safety risks;
  • Conducting risk assessments and driving corrective and preventative actions to mitigate environmental, health, or safety risks;
  • Facilitating required safety meetings (e.g., Pre-shift, Department Change Management, General communication, Town Hall, etc.);
  • Completing incident investigations, root cause analyses, and implementing corrective actions promptly;
  • Staying informed of process changes that may impact equipment operation;
  • Maintaining ISO-compliant records.

Qualifications:
Education/Work Experience

1-Master's Degree in Electrical Engineering or a related field.
