Job Title: Senior Counsel, Product

Elastic is a leading provider of search, observability, and security solutions. We are seeking a Senior Counsel, Product to join our Elastic Legal department.

About the Role

This is a well-rounded and diverse role for a curious and engaging leader who enjoys finding solutions and bringing velocity to a quality outcome. As a Senior Counsel, Product, you will be responsible for:

  • Acting as the primary legal partner to Elastic's engineering organization, supporting the launch of our product offerings, including open source, inbound technology, SaaS, and cloud services;
  • Negotiating, structuring, and handling a wide variety of commercial contracts, supporting our inbound IP and Open Source third-party dependency integrations within our Products;
  • Handling strategic partnerships for inbound IP integrations;
  • Being the subject matter authority in the area of open source and product development-related laws;
  • Partnering with our international team members on specific partner agreements in their respective regions where appropriate;
  • Helping build and strengthen workflows, playbooks, training, and processes between our department and other departments within Elastic to enable our productization functions and compliance initiatives relating to the creation, development, and release of our products and integrated support and services;
  • Supporting product IP-related diligence of M&A targets and integration of IP from acquisitions and joint development into our portfolio, whether by assignment or license;
  • And reviewing Elastic's existing and planned products, business activities, and R&D in the context of risks as they relate to the productization process, and laws and regulations.
Requirements

To be successful in this role, you will need:

  • A JD (or LLM) from an accredited law school and be admitted to practice law in the U.S., including in the location where you reside;
  • 7-10+ years of experience in software product-related law and practice, including the ability to partner within a company to mature, manage, and grow complex systems for third-party dependency management, productization processes, and associated services and support functions;
  • Thriving in a global, distributed environment;
  • Contributing to driving innovation in the utilization of open source and third-party dependencies in association with proprietary system creation;
  • Moving product and related support and services functions into a high productization release cadence during peak activity;
  • Demonstrating good humor, strong judgment, impeccable ethics, and the ability to balance legal risks with business strategy;
  • Handling ambiguity and change very competently and thoughtfully;
  • Experience in partnering with, supporting, and communicating optimally with Engineering teams in a cross-cultural and engineering-based global environment;
  • A flexible approach to prioritization and problem-solving with resilience and positivity.

Compensation

Compensation for this role is in the form of base salary. This role does not have a variable compensation component. The typical starting salary range for this role is $153,800—$243,340 USD. In select locations, including Seattle WA, Los Angeles CA, the San Francisco Bay Area CA, and the New York City Metro Area, an alternate range may apply as specified below. These ranges represent the lowest to highest salary we reasonably and in good faith believe we would pay for this role at the time of this posting. We may ultimately pay more or less than the posted range, and the ranges may be modified in the future. An employee's position within the salary range will be based on several factors, including relevant education, qualifications, certifications, experience, skills, geographic location, performance, and business or organizational needs.

Elastic believes that employees should have the opportunity to share in the value that we create together for our shareholders. Therefore, in addition to cash compensation, this role is currently eligible to participate in Elastic's stock program. Our total rewards package also includes a company-matched 401k with dollar-for-dollar matching up to 6% of eligible earnings, along with a range of other benefits offered with a holistic emphasis on employee well-being.
