About the Role

Elastic is a leading provider of search, observability, and security solutions. We're seeking a Senior Counsel to join our Product team, responsible for legal partnership with our engineering organization. This role will involve negotiating commercial contracts, handling strategic partnerships, and providing subject matter expertise on open source and product development laws.

Key Responsibilities
  • Partner with engineering teams to launch Elastic's product offerings, including open source, inbound technology, SaaS, and cloud services.
  • Negotiate and structure commercial contracts for inbound IP and open source third-party dependency integrations.
  • Handle strategic partnerships for inbound IP integrations and provide subject matter expertise on open source and product development laws.
  • Partner with international team members on specific partner agreements and help build workflows, playbooks, and training for productization functions and compliance initiatives.
  • Support product IP-related diligence of M&A targets and integration of IP from acquisitions and joint development into our portfolio.
  • Review Elastic's existing and planned products, business activities, and R&D in the context of risks as they relate to the productization process and laws and regulations.
Requirements
  • A JD (or LLM) from an accredited law school and admission to practice law in the U.S.
  • 7-10+ years of experience in software product-related law and practice, including partnering with companies to mature, manage, and grow complex systems for third-party dependency management and productization processes.
  • Thriving in a global, distributed environment and contributing to driving innovation in the utilization of open source and third-party dependencies.
  • Demonstrating good humor, strong judgment, impeccable ethics, and the ability to balance legal risks with business strategy.
  • Handling ambiguity and change competently and thoughtfully.
  • Experience partnering with engineering teams in a cross-cultural and engineering-based global environment.

Compensation

The typical starting salary range for this role is $153,800-$243,340 USD. This role does not have a variable compensation component. Elastic believes in sharing value with employees, and this role is eligible to participate in our stock program. Our total rewards package includes a company-matched 401k with dollar-for-dollar matching up to 6% of eligible earnings, along with a range of other benefits offered with a holistic emphasis on employee well-being.
