Salary: $128,000.00 to $135,000.00, salary commensurate with education and experience)

General Overview of Responsibilities:

The Director is responsible for providing strategic leadership, oversight, and management of the Office of Grants and Sponsored Programs. Leveraging extensive experience with the complete lifecycle of grants, the Director will collaborate with various stakeholders within the academic community, particularly faculty across diverse disciplines, to secure funding from local, state, and federal sources that align with the institution's mission and strategic goals. The Director, supported by their team, will manage the entire funding process, including pre-award, proposal submission, and post-award management. In the pre-award phase, their expertise will facilitate the identification of grant opportunities that the institution is well-positioned to pursue; additionally, they will assist in the development and writing of proposals for these funding opportunities. The Director will serve as the institutional representative for submitting proposals related to the Office of Grants and Sponsored Programs. In the post-award phase, the Director, with their team's support, will work closely with principal investigators to ensure the effective execution of all award components; guarantee compliance with all relevant internal and external regulations, policies, and laws governing the use of awarded funds; and ensure timely reporting to funding agencies. The Director will also collaborate with colleagues in Institutional Advancement to support the acquisition of external funding types beyond the Office's scope.

Essential Duties:
  • Formulate and execute strategic plans to enhance the Office's effectiveness, generate new funding sources, attract premier sponsors, and expand the University's capabilities in proposal writing and grants management.
  • Establish and maintain productive relationships with public and private program offices, congressional offices, and local, state, and federal reviewing and approving agencies.
  • Collaborate with principal investigators and key stakeholders to highlight faculty research innovations.
  • Ensure the planning, submission, implementation, and reporting for funding opportunities at various levels for projects that align with the institution's mission and strategic priorities.
  • Monitor the progress of projects supported by funding awards and provide timely updates to funding sources through regular progress reports as required.
  • Work in conjunction with the Finance department to ensure adherence to all internal and external regulations, policies, and laws governing the use of awarded funds.
  • Oversee the periodic review of the Office of Grants and Sponsored Programs and its associated functions.
  • Collaborate to identify areas for improvement within the Office and develop plans to implement enhancements, including adjustments to University policies, guidelines, and resources essential for effective grants management.
  • Mentor and recognize team members in the Office of Grants and Sponsored Programs and promote collaborative efforts centered around grants across University divisions, particularly with faculty across all academic disciplines.
  • Perform additional duties as assigned.


Job Requirements:
Required Qualifications:
  • Master's degree or equivalent professional qualifications and achievements.
  • Significant experience in sponsored research administration in progressively responsible leadership roles.
  • Expertise in developing and delivering presentations, reports, and other communication materials to a variety of executive, corporate, and community stakeholders.
  • Exceptional ability to represent the institution effectively.
  • Strong supervisory and leadership skills, including intercultural competencies necessary for collaboration within a diverse educational environment.
  • Excellent problem-solving abilities.
  • Proficiency in office technology.

Preferred Qualifications:
  • Experience in higher education.
  • Experience in unionized environments.

Salary:

Salaries for current employees and individuals currently working for the state must be calculated individually in accordance with collective bargaining agreements and state policies. Job specifications can be found on the relevant higher education department's webpage.
