Mental Health Association of Nassau County (MHANC) is a not-for-profit organization dedicated to improving mental health in our community. We are seeking a Residential Counselor to provide support and assistance to individuals diagnosed with mental illness residing in our community residences.

The Residential Counselor will promote greater independence by assisting and supporting residents in day-to-day activities, personal care, skills building, community integration, and counseling around everyday activities. This position includes weekdays and/or weekends, scheduled by the Program Supervisor.

Key Responsibilities:

  • Implement nutritional components, including shopping, menu planning, and food preparation/clean-up.
  • Implement activities of daily living, such as personal care and hygiene.
  • Coordinate care, including psychiatric, medical, and dental services, and attend treatment team meetings.
  • Develop service plans to deliver client-centered services, focusing on skills related to independent living.
  • Conduct restorative service sessions and document progress in client charts.
  • Manage crises and emergency situations.
  • Implement all facets of the functional program, including program philosophy, goals, and objectives.
  • Assist with monthly fire drills and ensure compliance with fire and safety procedures.
  • Coordinate and provide transportation for recreational activities.
  • Assist with maintenance and upkeep of the residence and property.
  • Conduct and document weekly community meetings with residents.
  • Attend staff meetings, in-service training, and other training as instructed by Supervisory staff.

Requirements:

  • High School Diploma and five years' experience in human services.
  • Bachelor's degree in human services or a related field preferred.
  • Experience in a community residence setting preferred.
