SUMMARY:

The Wound Care Nurse operates as a Unit Manager, tasked with delivering leadership and specialized skin care to residents under the guidance of the attending physician, the Director of Nursing, or the Medical Director of the facility. This role emphasizes the treatment and management of skin conditions.

KEY RESPONSIBILITIES:
1. Collaborate with the Director of Nursing and other licensed nursing staff regarding residents' dermatological issues.
2. Assess residents by reviewing their medical records and charts, distinguishing between normal and abnormal findings to determine when a referral to a physician is necessary.
3. Provide comprehensive assessment and diagnostic services to residents, utilizing techniques such as observation, inspection, and palpation.
4. Initiate consultation requests or referrals as needed, responding to inquiries from residents, physicians, or nursing personnel.
5. Identify, manage, and treat various skin conditions and lesions, including abrasions, foot ailments like corns and calluses, pressure ulcers, and infections.
6. Assist in rehabilitation activities for residents, performing range of motion exercises, aiding in ambulation, and providing emotional support while monitoring physical therapy outcomes.
7. Offer preventative health care services, advising residents on nutrition and the prevention of common skin disorders.
8. Prepare written and verbal reports for the attending physician, Medical Director, or Director of Nursing regarding residents' care and status.
9. Implement and uphold established policies and procedures related to nursing care treatments, communicating these to physicians, residents, and their families as appropriate.
10. Perform additional duties as assigned.

QUALIFICATIONS:
To excel in this role, candidates must demonstrate the ability to fulfill each essential duty effectively. The following qualifications are necessary:

- Current, unencumbered state licensure as an LPN/RN.
- Preferred Wound Certification from an accredited institution.
- Current CPR certification.
- A minimum of two (2) years of experience as an LPN/RN.

- Proficiency in speaking and writing the English language.

- Must be able to push, pull, move, and/or lift a minimum of 25 pounds to a height of 5 feet and carry such weight a minimum distance of 50 feet.
