Position Overview

ENGIE Global Energy Management and Sales (GEMS) oversees the management of a diverse portfolio that includes electricity, natural gas, environmental products, and bulk commodities on a global scale. The Risk division within GEMS is tasked with the evaluation, control, and reporting of all market-related activities, as well as the strategic oversight of risk capital across these operations, particularly focusing on trading and portfolio management activities.

As a Market Risk Advisor based in Houston, your role will involve collaboration with Commercial and Risk teams to deliver analytical insights and strategic support aimed at assessing various risk management techniques and optimizing Profit & Loss (P&L) within established risk frameworks.

Key Responsibilities
  • Develop, refine, and sustain tools, methodologies, and reports that assess pricing and risk evaluation for various commercial transactions.
  • Conduct regular and ad-hoc analyses; propose, assess, and validate commercial strategies that balance value and risk across retail supply and renewable energy portfolios.
  • Engage in knowledge sharing with stakeholders and Expertise Centers, supporting Commercial, Origination, and Business Development initiatives.
  • Utilize benchmarking data to facilitate valuation and competitive assessments, establishing a benchmarking process for front-office actions.
  • Construct, maintain, and disseminate internal models for monitoring and evaluating asset-specific performance metrics.
  • Identify and recommend strategies to mitigate risks and enhance efficiencies across the ENGIE portfolio.
  • Perform economic analyses of structured transactions to support Origination & Structuring activities.
  • Research and analyze market trends, customer load patterns, and financial forecasts to provide actionable insights to internal stakeholders.
  • Gather and synthesize relevant market intelligence.
  • Evaluate the impact of regulatory changes on commodity risk positions and relay feedback to the front office.
  • Execute additional responsibilities as assigned.
Qualifications
  • A bachelor's degree in an analytical or quantitative field (e.g., Engineering, Finance, Economics, Mathematics).
  • A minimum of seven years of business experience, including at least three years in Competitive Energy Markets, particularly with Renewable assets and/or Retail Supply.
  • Strong understanding of financial derivatives and commodity markets.
  • Proficient in data management and analysis tools (e.g., Advanced Excel, VBA, SQL, Python, R).
  • Ability to leverage various tools and data sources, demonstrating curiosity and resourcefulness.
  • Familiarity with the structure and protocols of wholesale and retail energy markets across different regulatory frameworks.
  • Analytical mindset with the capability to provide insightful analysis and develop action plans.
  • Strong project management skills with a focus on meeting deadlines.
  • Ability to manage multiple priorities effectively and accurately.
  • Team-oriented individual comfortable in a matrixed environment.
  • Excellent communication and presentation skills.

Compensation

Salary Range: $112,000 - $172,500 USD annually. This range reflects the average expected pay for qualified candidates. Actual salary may vary based on factors such as geography, experience, and education.
