Job Description

Foreign Policy's finance department is seeking an experienced accounting professional to join the financial accounting and reporting team. As a part of this team, you will be responsible for monthly and annual general ledger close procedures with an emphasis on revenue recognition and expense reporting across the business.

Key Responsibilities:
  • Financial Reporting: Prepare monthly journal entries for revenue and expense accruals, variance-to-budget analyses for income statement accounts, month-over-month variance analyses for balance sheet accounts, and general ledger account reconciliations.
  • Meeting Deadlines: Meet monthly and annual reporting deadlines, both internal and external.
  • Collaboration: Collaborate with appropriate business counterparts' teams to ensure completeness and accuracy of the data that flows to the general ledger.
  • Financial Statement Preparation: Prepare schedules and supporting data in conjunction with the issuance of annual financial statements and tax filings as requested.
  • Audit Support: Prepare data and schedules for audit requests during interim and year-end audit cycles, supporting both external and internal audits.
  • Budget and Forecasting: Prepare data and schedules in support of the annual budget and interim forecasts.
  • Process Improvement: Update and/or create documentation of processes and procedures to enhance the overall quality of journal entry preparation, account reconciliation, and financial reporting efforts.
  • Ad Hoc Analysis: Prepare ad hoc financial analyses, participate in special projects, and perform other duties as assigned.
  • Customer Service: Provide excellent customer service to internal and external stakeholders.
Requirements:
  • Education: A Degree in Accounting, CPA preferred.
  • Experience: 2+ years of general ledger accounting experience.
  • Skills: A demonstrated understanding of accounting and financial concepts, clear and concise communication and presentation skills, both verbal and written, advanced Excel skills, the ability to work effectively in a team environment, the ability to read and analyze financial reports, a love of details with demonstrated initiative in research and follow-through, and proven ability to manage multiple projects simultaneously.
  • Software: Experience with Quickbooks (preferred).
