Aircraft Sheet Metal Assembly Technician - Malibu Wings - 1st Shift (Full Time)
Department: All Openings

Collaborates with the Supervisor to produce high-quality aircraft components and assemblies in accordance with Piper Drawings, Process Specifications (PPS), and other manufacturing guidelines. Aims to meet or exceed production and delivery targets while optimizing company resources to fulfill organizational objectives.

Key Responsibilities:


• Assemble aircraft sheet metal structural components, including wing spars, fuselage sections, and associated flight control surfaces such as Horizontal Stabs, Vertical Fins, Ailerons, Flaps, Rudders, Elevators, and Trim Tabs.


• Utilize air-operated and electric hand tools to drill, countersink, dimple, ream, and chamfer holes on structural assemblies.


• Trim and layout assemblies to maintain specified tolerances and edge distance requirements.


• Apply sealants to pressurized fuselage sections and other structural joints as needed.


• Operate routers and grinders for precision tasks such as cabin windows and structural joints.


• Install mechanical, electrical, and hydraulic components and accessories.


• Inspect and approve own work and that of teammates using Piper inspection certifications.


• Ensure compliance with Piper QAM/QIM and FAA standards.


• Collaborate within the department to address quality issues promptly and effectively.


• Rework discrepancies as necessary and assist with Material Review Board repairs and modifications.


• Contribute to continuous improvement initiatives aimed at enhancing team performance and productivity.


• Partner with experienced colleagues to gain and share practical knowledge for effective job performance.


• Adhere to all safety and compliance protocols, including Environmental Protection and Tool Control.


• Perform additional duties as assigned by supervision.

Minimum Qualifications:

To succeed in this role, candidates must demonstrate the ability to perform essential functions effectively. The following qualifications are required:

  • High school diploma or equivalent experience
  • Relevant sheet metal assembly experience:
    • Sheet Metal Structural Assembler I: Up to 3 years preferred
    • Sheet Metal Structural Assembler II: 3-5 years; or *
    • Senior Sheet Metal Structural Assembler: 5+ years; or *

Proven competency through task assignments related to the position, demonstrating the necessary knowledge and skills.

  • Ability to work scheduled shifts, including overtime
  • Capability to work independently
  • Proficient in using hand and power tools
  • Adherence to safety protocols
  • Strong communication skills (both written and verbal)
  • Compliance with Piper Drawings and manufacturing instructions

Physical Requirements:

Candidates must possess the physical ability to perform tasks requiring full range of motion, visual and auditory acuity, and dexterity. The role involves prolonged periods of sitting, standing, and walking, as well as the ability to lift up to 35 lbs. Additional physical demands include bending, kneeling, crouching, twisting, balancing, and reaching.

Mental Requirements:

Candidates should demonstrate the ability to build collaborative relationships, work under pressure, organize information, and prioritize tasks. Critical thinking and flexibility are essential, along with the ability to multi-task and maintain attention to detail.

Working Environment:

  • Primarily indoor work with occasional outdoor tasks. Potential exposure to odors, chemicals, dust, fumes, sharp objects, and varying temperatures.
  • Regular interaction with staff, vendors, and regulatory representatives.
