Aircraft Sheet Metal Structural Assembler I - Malibu Wings - 1st Shift (Full Time)

This position involves assisting the Supervisor in the fabrication of high-quality aircraft components and assemblies in accordance with Piper Drawings, Process Specifications (PPS), and other manufacturing directives. The role focuses on achieving or surpassing planned production and delivery timelines while optimizing company resources to fulfill organizational objectives.

Key Responsibilities:


• Assist in the assembly of aircraft sheet metal structural components, including wing spars, fuselage sections, and associated flight control surfaces such as horizontal stabilizers, vertical fins, ailerons, flaps, rudders, elevators, and trim tabs.


• Utilize air-operated and electric hand tools to drill, countersink, dimple, ream, and chamfer holes on structural assemblies.


• Trim assemblies for proper fit and layout parts while adhering to design specifications, including gap tolerances and rivet edge distances.


• Apply sealants to pressurized fuselage sections and other structural joints as required.


• Operate routers and grinders for precision tasks, such as cabin windows and structural joints.


• Install mechanical, electrical, and hydraulic system components and accessories.


• Conduct inspections of own work and that of teammates, utilizing Piper inspection certifications.


• Ensure compliance with Piper QAM/QIM and FAA standards within the department.


• Collaborate with team members to address quality issues promptly and effectively.


• Rework discrepancies as needed and assist with major and routine Material Review Board repairs and modifications.


• Engage in continuous improvement initiatives to enhance team performance, including delivery schedules, quality defect reduction, and productivity increases.


• Partner with senior colleagues to gain and share practical knowledge for effective training and performance.


• Adhere to all departmental compliance requirements, including safety and environmental protocols.


• Perform additional duties as assigned by supervision.

Minimum Qualifications:

  • High school diploma or equivalent combination of education and experience
  • Related sheet metal assembly experience requirements:
    • Sheet Metal Structural Assembler I: ≤ 3 years of experience preferred
    • Sheet Metal Structural Assembler II: 3-5 years of experience; or *
    • Senior Sheet Metal Structural Assembler: ≥ 5 years of experience; or *

Demonstrated competency through assigned tasks confirming knowledge, skills, and abilities in lieu of experience.

  • Ability to work scheduled shifts and hours, including overtime
  • Ability to work independently with minimal supervision
  • Proficient in the use of hand and power tools as required
  • Adherence to all safety protocols
  • Effective communication skills (both written and verbal)

Physical Requirements:

Candidates must demonstrate the physical capability to perform a full range of motion necessary for the job. This includes visual and auditory acuity, as well as manual dexterity to operate job-specific equipment. Ability to endure long periods of sitting, standing, and/or walking, and to lift and carry up to 35 lbs. Other physical demands include bending, kneeling, crouching, twisting, balancing, and reaching.
