Banquet Manager Job Description

Job Summary:

The Banquet Manager is responsible for ensuring the banquet department operates effectively, adhering to health regulations and local liquor laws. This role requires leadership skills to drive revenue, maximize profit, and ensure quality. The successful candidate will manage assigned staff to achieve overall financial results, guest satisfaction, and positive employee relations.

Key Responsibilities:

  1. Lead the banquet staff to ensure department operations are efficient and business goals are achieved.
  2. Attend meetings and communicate effectively with responsible staff to ensure guest needs are met.
  3. Manage banquet expenses to maximize hotel profitability.
  4. Implement effective labor management through proper scheduling, monitoring, and adjusting based on business needs.
  5. Follow CSM procurement guidelines and apply good business judgment.
  6. Manage and maintain company assets within budget guidelines.
  7. Review all banquet contracts to ensure accurate billing.
  8. Accountable for guest satisfaction by ensuring food and beverage service standards are met and guest needs are responded to in a timely manner.
  9. Drive GSS and ESS results.
  10. Resolve guest complaints in a courteous and friendly manner, focusing on service recovery when applicable.
  11. Train and model guest service standards to staff.
  12. Build relationships with clients to maximize repeat business.
  13. Conduct routine inspections of banquet operations to maintain quality food, beverage, and kitchen/restaurant standards.
  14. Ensure a clean and safe work environment and follow all CSM procedures for guest/employee incidents.
  15. Responsible for interviewing, hiring, and developing associates.
  16. Evaluate staff performance and coach to ensure standards are met.
  17. Motivate team by setting goals, providing ongoing feedback, and rewarding/recognizing associates.
  18. Deliver discipline/corrective action and make termination decisions.
  19. Responsible for training all associates and ensuring training records are maintained.
  20. Analyze quality issues, identify training needs, and ensure implementation to improve results.
  21. Utilize available resources and adhere to CSM's training policies.
  22. Ensure all company, brand, and department-specific training requirements are met.
  23. Responsible for effective self/workload management.
  24. Demonstrate clear written and verbal communication skills.
  25. Promote collaboration and a positive, professional work environment.
  26. Attend all daily, weekly, and/or monthly department/hotel meetings to ensure proper communication/planning occurs.
  27. Adhere to all CSM Standard Operating Procedures.

Requirements:

  • 3+ years of banquets/catering management experience required.
  • Must be detail-oriented, have the ability to communicate well with all levels within and outside the organization, and be able to problem-solve with employees and guests.
  • Must be able to manage multiple priorities in a fast-paced environment.

Preferred Qualifications:

  • 5+ years banquets/catering management or supervisor experience in a hotel setting of similar brand or distinction.
  • Prefer banquet experience with a venue of similar size, volume, and reputation for focus on client satisfaction.
