Job Overview

ORGANIZATIONAL CONTEXT

The role involves delivering effective, timely, and appropriate pre-hospital intermediate and basic life support care, ensuring the safe transportation of patients who are ill or injured, in line with local, state, national, and Graham Hospital District standards.

INTERACTIONS

Engagement primarily occurs with: Physicians, hospital staff, clinical and non-clinical departments, patients, visitors, law enforcement, and fire/rescue teams.

KEY RESPONSIBILITIES

  • Conduct initial assessments of patients to determine the required actions.
  • Adhere to protocols while providing Basic/Advanced EMT or Paramedic level care in both emergency and non-emergency situations.
  • Ensure accurate and timely documentation of patient care activities for continuity and record-keeping.
  • Facilitate safe and prompt transport of patients to other healthcare facilities.
  • Maintain current knowledge and skills in accordance with Texas Department of State Health Services standards.
  • Perform regular vehicle checks to ensure sufficient supplies and operational readiness.
  • Keep vehicles and station areas clean and well-maintained.
  • For Paramedics: Obtain and maintain Basic Life Support Instructor certification to train hospital staff as necessary.
  • Operate and drive ambulances in compliance with safety regulations and laws.
  • Deliver exceptional customer service.
  • Uphold confidentiality and adhere to HIPAA regulations.
  • Collaborate with colleagues to meet departmental goals and maintain positive inter-departmental relations.
  • Exhibit professionalism and timeliness in all interactions.
  • Address practical problems and interpret various instructions provided in written and oral formats.
  • Attend required meetings and perform additional duties as assigned.

SKILLS AND EQUIPMENT USAGE

Proficient in using: Computers, telephones, fax machines, copiers, scanners, printers, calculators, and other standard office equipment. Familiar with medical tools such as blood pressure cuffs, stethoscopes, syringes, IV pumps, and various other medical equipment.

EDUCATIONAL AND PROFESSIONAL REQUIREMENTS

Education:

  • High school diploma or equivalent.
  • Current certification as a Basic or Advanced Emergency Medical Technician or Paramedic through the Texas Department of State Health Services.
  • Valid Texas driver’s license with a satisfactory driving record.
  • Current BLS/ACLS/PALS certifications.

Experience:

  • Preferred one year of relevant experience.

  • Proficient in spoken and written English; Spanish proficiency is a plus.
  • Basic computer skills, including Microsoft Office and electronic medical documentation.
  • Ability to adapt to changes, prioritize tasks, and manage stress effectively.
  • Capability to work independently and collaboratively within a multidisciplinary team.
  • Strong interpersonal and communication skills.
  • Effective time management skills.
  • Ability to work under pressure while maintaining a courteous demeanor.
  • Physical capability to perform job duties safely.

PHYSICAL AND MENTAL REQUIREMENTS

Physical:

  • Walking: 80%
  • Standing: 80%
  • Lifting up to 100 lbs: 25%
  • Pushing up to 50 lbs: 50%

Mental:

  • Moderate to high stress levels.

CONTINUING EDUCATION:

Ongoing education and training are required to maintain certification and licensure.

SUPERVISION:

No direct supervision of other employees.

ADA REQUIREMENTS:

Job functions may involve exposure to various environmental conditions, including extreme temperatures and mechanical hazards.

ADDITIONAL INFORMATION:

Commitment to maintaining a clean and safe work environment in compliance with regulatory standards is essential. Adherence to infection control procedures and effective use of equipment is expected. The employee's competence will be evaluated continuously to ensure ongoing performance standards are met.
