Position Requirements for Technician I:
  • Ability to stand for extended periods, bend, squat, reach, walk, and lift/carry weights exceeding 20lbs but not more than 100lbs.
  • Basic knowledge of Telephony and Ethernet, along with troubleshooting capabilities.
  • Capacity to work effectively within a team and independently.
Education and Certifications:
  • High school diploma or equivalent.
Essential Skills:
  • Proficient in using basic hand tools.
  • Fundamental installation knowledge for mounting electronic equipment, whether rack-mounted or wall-mounted.
  • Understanding of basic Ethernet cabling requirements for cable installation and termination of jacks and patch panels according to EIA/TIA standards.
  • Familiarity with Telephony color codes.
  • Ability to wire basic phone jacks, such as RJ-11.
  • Knowledge of terminating or punching down telephone cables.
  • Basic understanding of fiber optic cables/jumpers, including cleaning connectors and checking light levels with a power meter.
  • Awareness of different fiber optic cable types, such as multi-mode and single-mode.
  • Familiarity with various fiber connector types, including SC/LC/ST/FC.
  • Knowledge of different SFP types and the ability to differentiate between them.
  • Basic computer skills, including static IP assignment for Ethernet ports and proficiency in Microsoft applications like email and web browsers.
  • Strong customer service skills.
  • Able to manage assigned tasks effectively.
Key Responsibilities:
  • Installing or mounting electronic equipment in relay racks, on walls, or backboards.
  • Pulling cables both vertically and horizontally and performing terminations.
  • Working from ladders or elevated positions.
  • Testing basic internet circuits using computers or testing equipment.
  • Testing basic POTS lines.
  • Addressing trouble tickets to restore customer service.
  • Traveling outside of the assigned work area as needed.
  • Collaborating with various internal teams to install or restore customer service.
  • Being available for on-call duties outside of regular business hours.
  • Completing tasks as assigned by the Manager/Supervisor.
