Job Summary

University Hospitals is seeking a highly skilled Patient Access Specialist to join our Revenue Cycle team. As an essential member of our team, you will be responsible for accurate registration, patient estimates, point of service collections, and providing exemplary customer service to patients and customers.

Key Responsibilities
  • Interview patients and utilize multiple complex applications to create or validate patient medical records and insurance/bill claims.
  • Mastery of skills relating to insurance coverage, benefits, rules, and regulations, and allocation of plans to ensure accurate information and fulfillment of requirements.
  • Verify and allocate insurance plans using electronic eligibility tools, phone calls, payer web portals, and initiate appropriate action for services, including non-covered and out-of-network insurance services.
  • Execute patient estimates, educate guarantors regarding charges and out-of-pocket liability, and establish payment plans when applicable for professional and technical services.
  • Successfully calculate, collect, and post co-pays, deductible, co-insurance, and prior balance due from patients in accordance with policy, meeting or exceeding collection targets and productivity standards.
  • Take steps to prevent medical record duplications or incorrect patient selection, imperative to patient safety, and safeguard Protected Health Information (PHI).
Requirements
  • High School Equivalent/GED Required
  • 1+ years of healthcare or customer service experience Required; 2+ years of healthcare or customer service experience preferred
  • College associate or bachelor's degree is equivalent to 1 year of work experience.
  • Experience utilizing multiple complex software solutions Required
  • Dependable to work in this 24/7/365 department with willingness to travel to other sites and locations throughout the enterprise, including possible overtime. Required
  • Notable client service, communication, and relationship building skills. Required
  • Must have ability to perform in a fast-paced and stressful environment, such as the Emergency Department. Required
  • Demonstrates ability to function independently and as a team player in a fast-paced environment. Required
