Certified Athletic Trainer with NYS Credentials

The Athletic Trainer, under the guidance of a medical professional, implements techniques and strategies for the management of sports-related injuries. This role encompasses preconditioning, conditioning, and rehabilitation for individuals who have sustained athletic injuries, utilizing suitable preventative and supportive measures. The trainer will educate coaches, athletes, parents, and medical staff on the care and prevention of sports injuries. The position requires collaboration within educational institutions and healthcare facilities to enhance patient care.
The Athletic Trainer is expected to maintain a presence on-site for 40 hours each week, working in conjunction with the school's Athletic Trainer to deliver a comprehensive athletic training program. During the off-season, coverage will extend to local collegiate summer baseball teams.
Key Responsibilities:
- Provide coverage for home athletic events based on a schedule established by the hiring organization, athletic trainer, and athletic director, ensuring support for both varsity and selected non-varsity events.
- Deliver practice coverage as coordinated with the athletic trainer and athletic director for both varsity and non-varsity teams.
- Implement injury prevention strategies through protective taping, wrapping, and bracing, while assisting in the design of practices aimed at minimizing injury risk. Conduct workshops for staff on injury prevention, CPR, injury recognition, treatment, and rehabilitation.
- Support physical therapists or physicians in patient care processes by maintaining equipment, changing linens, and assisting with bracing and splinting.
- Promote the athletic training program and health facility within the educational and medical communities through informational materials and media outreach.
- Exhibit strong leadership capabilities, handle confidential information with care, and interact with the public in a professional manner. Manage multiple priorities effectively and foster teamwork through positive role modeling. Demonstrate flexibility in work locations, schedules, and responsibilities, while working independently and efficiently. Exceptional communication and customer service skills are essential, along with proficiency in word processing, spreadsheets, and presentation software.
Qualifications:
Education:
Minimum: Bachelor's Degree in Sports Medicine or a related field.
Preferred: Master's Degree in Athletic Training.
Licenses/Certifications:
License: NYS Registration and Certification as a Licensed Athletic Trainer.
Certifications: NATABOC Certification and BLS Certification required through the RQI system during clinical orientation.
Experience:
Minimum: Must be at least 21 years of age (per NYS Regulations).
Preferred: 1-2 years of experience as an Athletic Trainer in a high school or medical practice setting.
