Position Overview
The Director of Individual Giving and Special Events will lead a dedicated team focused on individual contributions, which includes managing annual and major donors, overseeing development operations, and ensuring effective stewardship. This role is pivotal in achieving objectives related to special events, including the annual gala and smaller gatherings throughout the year. Collaborating with the Chief Development Officer (CDO), the Director will provide strategic leadership for the organization’s fundraising initiatives, emphasizing the enhancement of major donor and legacy giving programs, as well as stewardship activities associated with events.
Key Responsibilities
- Collaborate with the CDO to establish a strategic communications calendar for fundraising efforts, working alongside the Director of Marketing and Communications and the Development Operations Manager to create a compelling narrative for supporting JVS.
- Oversee the Individual Giving, Events, and Development Operations team, including direct reports such as the Development Operations Manager, Development Coordinator, and Development Systems and Database Analyst.
- Manage the planning and execution of the annual gala, which includes co-designing the event program, managing external consultants, drafting solicitation letters and sponsorship agreements, and coordinating with marketing on communication strategies.
- Develop and implement a series of engagement activities and communications to nurture relationships with donors contributing $1,000 and above, as well as Legacy Giving supporters.
- In partnership with the CDO, formulate strategies to enhance individual giving and legacy giving initiatives.
- Manage a portfolio of donors contributing between $1,000 and $20,000, employing engagement strategies and delivering exceptional stewardship to secure renewed and increased contributions.
- Support the Chief Development Officer in operational tasks, internal communications, donor engagement, and tracking major donor fundraising activities, with a focus on expanding the major donor base and increasing revenue from this segment.
Qualifications
- A minimum of 7 years of experience in development, with at least 3 years focused on individual donor relations and fundraising events.
- Exceptional presentation, communication, and interpersonal skills, with the ability to foster positive professional relationships across diverse teams and communities.
- Demonstrated leadership capabilities and experience in team management.
- Self-motivated, detail-oriented, and organized, with the ability to maintain high productivity while managing multiple priorities and deadlines.
- Strong written and verbal communication skills, adept at crafting messages tailored to specific audiences with a focus on relationship-building.
- Proven project management skills and the ability to analyze data to inform strategic goals and tactics.
- Proficiency in Microsoft Office, project management software, and collaborative communication tools.
- Experience with Salesforce or similar relational databases.
- A seasoned fundraiser with a talent for building strong relationships and developing a growth-oriented revenue strategy.
- A personal or professional commitment to improving the quality of life for marginalized communities, particularly those with low financial resources and communities of color.
