TELECOM SYSTEMS / CONTROL ENGINEER

Fort Point LLC is seeking a skilled Telecom Systems Specialist with a strong background in defining the telecommunications scope for large-scale industrial projects, particularly in the refining and petrochemical sectors. The ideal candidate will possess expertise in various systems including CCTV, Public Address/General Alarm systems, Access Control, Perimeter Security, and Marine Communication Systems.

Key Responsibilities:

  • Lead the initial conceptualization of telecommunications and IT requirements for medium to mega-scale refining and petrochemical initiatives.
  • Collaborate with clients to present telecommunication strategies and provide regular updates on project progress.
  • Formulate a comprehensive telecommunications program strategy throughout all phases of the project lifecycle.
  • Oversee critical tasks requiring specialized knowledge in telecommunications, IT, and cybersecurity for refinery and petrochemical projects.
  • Manage the efforts of external design and construction teams.
  • Develop preliminary scopes and draft specifications for telecommunications, IT, and cybersecurity projects.
  • Generate, review, and authorize telecommunications and IT project packages.
  • Employ advanced engineering methodologies.
  • Resolve engineering challenges and determine appropriate methods.
  • Accountable for specific assets, including assigned personnel and budget management.
  • Create precise designs and calculations to fulfill project specifications.
  • Conduct field assessments as necessary and produce detailed reports with sketches.
  • Coordinate with other engineering disciplines to ensure high-quality deliverables.
  • Stay informed on the latest engineering processes, techniques, and industry standards.
  • Implement best practices in all telecommunications, IT, and cybersecurity outputs.
  • Provide technical direction to the design team.
  • Offer performance feedback to the discipline manager.
  • Design telecom networks and solutions across various hierarchical levels.
  • Establish technical standards and guidelines for the company's portfolio and applications.
  • Engage in risk assessments and technical evaluations.
  • Conduct regular design reviews and develop testing protocols that incorporate industry best practices.
  • Engineer resilient multi-vendor solutions with integrations across different platforms.

Required Qualifications:

  • EDUCATION: Bachelor’s degree in a relevant field.
  • Proven experience in the design, configuration, installation, and testing of systems relevant to large-scale refinery and petrochemical projects, including CCTV, Access Control, Perimeter Security, Public Address systems, and various network systems.
  • Minimum of 10 years of related professional experience.
  • Strong verbal and written communication skills for effective client interaction and design presentation.
  • Familiarity with CAD software for telecom systems drawing production is advantageous.
  • Experience in developing specifications, system designs, and component selection.
  • Background in refining and petrochemical facility operations.
  • Proven leadership in managing initiatives and supplier relationships.
  • Knowledge of instrument calculation software applications.
  • Ability to collaborate with various disciplines and understand their interface requirements.
  • Experience in plant design and construction is preferred.
  • Understanding of NEC, IEC, ISA, and IEEE standards and practices.
  • Management experience with virtualization technologies.
  • Experience in deploying and operating servers, network devices, and storage solutions.
  • Proficient in documenting network configurations and operational theories.
  • Skilled in managing network equipment and configuring related protocols, including high-capacity transport and edge routing/switching.
  • Experience in network traffic analysis and troubleshooting long-haul telecommunication links.
