About the Role

We are seeking a highly skilled Senior Installation Engineer to join our team at Hitachi Rail. As a key member of our engineering team, you will be responsible for the planning, design, installation, and maintenance of various railway systems and infrastructure.

Key Responsibilities
  • Design and install railway systems and infrastructure, including tracks, equipment, cable pathways, signaling systems, electrical lines, and other essential components, in accordance with safety and operational requirements.
  • Coordinate with various teams to ensure that the work is completed in accordance with the design specifications.
  • Ensure that all installations meet safety standards and regulations, minimizing the risk of accidents and ensuring the quality of designs.
  • Quality assurance of the designs, including inspecting installation sites, conducting site surveys, and addressing any issues in the designs that may arise during or after the installation process.
  • Manage and lead installation designs, coordinating with various stakeholders, project managers, clients, sub-contractors, and government agencies, to ensure projects are completed on time and within budget limits.
  • Maintain accurate records and documentation of installation designs, site survey updates, and changes, which are critical for regulatory compliance and future reference.
  • Communicate and collaborate with design teams, clients, and stakeholders, conveying technical information clearly and working collaboratively to achieve project goals in accordance with Hitachi global standards.
  • Stay up-to-date with industry advancements and technology to evaluate and implement new technologies and methods to improve design efficiency and modifications in railway systems.
Requirements
  • Four years of engineering experience within the electrical or transportation industry.
  • Experience in preparing conceptual and wiring designs for complex electrical substation projects.
  • Implementation, review, and analysis of technical studies and project scope of work.
  • Proficiency in computer-aided design (AutoCAD) and MicroStation software.
  • Development and understanding of technical specifications, drawings, and standards of equipment/project requirements.
  • Working closely with engineers to ensure accurate delivery and thorough designs that meet industry standards and specifications.
  • Maintenance of complete project documentation with respect to engineering studies and calculations, design packages, as-built requirements, and return data information.
  • Development and maintenance of good working relationships with internal groups that support project such as other engineering disciplines, Drafting, Procurement, Construction, and Project Management.
  • Preparation of bill of material (BOM) documentation.
  • Selection of equipment type and preparation of documents for materials list for construction and installation work.
  • Applicable industry standards including the National Electric Code (NEC), National Electric Safety Code (NESC), and the Institute of Electrical and Electronics Engineers (IEEE).
  • Coordination of design activities with other multi-discipline project team members.
  • Providing site support, including resolving site queries, attending site meetings, and performing site inspections with other engineers during the testing and commissioning phase of the projects.
Education and Qualifications

A Master's degree (or foreign equivalent) in Electrical Engineering, Telecommunication Engineering, Electronics and Communication Engineering, or Civil Engineering is required.

In accordance with the DOT's FRA and FTA programs, Hitachi's substance screening program tests pre-employment candidates and current employees, as required for safety-sensitive positions.
