The Clinical Laboratory Scientist plays a crucial role in ensuring the integrity of laboratory specimens for testing by identifying pre-analytical factors that may negatively impact patient outcomes. This position involves operating various systems and methodologies to deliver precise and timely data for patient care, quality assurance, and proficiency assessments. Department: Microbiology
Qualifications:
- Bachelor’s degree in a science-related field from an accredited institution, preferably in Clinical Laboratory Science or Medical Technology.
- Completion of a NAACLS accredited MLS program or equivalent clinical training within the last five years may substitute for one year of full-time clinical experience.
Certification Requirements:
- ASCP or AMT Board certification relevant to the scope of practice, including MT, MLS, MLT, and other specialties.
Key Responsibilities:
- Ensure quality assurance through review of technical activities as per facility standards.
- Assist in preparing the laboratory for inspections.
- Adhere to site-specific Standard Operating Procedures (SOP) and document knowledge of their contents annually.
- Perform necessary Quality Control (QC) measures, including corrective actions and documentation, and identify QC issues proactively.
- Serve as a resource for colleagues and clients regarding technical inquiries; demonstrate advanced knowledge of both technical and administrative tasks.
- Report accurate results while minimizing corrections not due to auto-verification or specimen-related issues.
- Additional duties as assigned.
