Charge Capture Specialist for Medical Office

POSITION SUMMARY: This role is accountable for the precise and prompt handling of clinic work queues, which includes charge assessment, claims editing, and follow-up processes. The individual will be responsible for relaying issues and trends among front office personnel, healthcare providers, clinic administration, and the revenue cycle team. This position aids in all clinic workflows that contribute to the submission of accurate claims and the minimization of registration, authorization, and injectable-related claim denials. The role also involves collecting and managing cash, co-payments, and executing comprehensive cashiering functions for the practice.
RequirementsMINIMUM QUALIFICATIONS:
EDUCATION: A high school diploma or equivalent is required.
CERTIFICATION/LICENSES: Not applicable.
SKILLS:
- Comprehensive knowledge of all front office operations within a physician practice, including registration, telephone management, and reporting.
- Extensive expertise in registration processes, particularly in resolving missing or incorrect registration/demographic information.
- Proficient computer skills, particularly in data entry.
- Strong critical thinking abilities and exceptional customer service skills, including the capacity to handle demanding or challenging situations involving patients, staff, and providers.
- Ability to think independently and exercise sound judgment in resolving unusual issues or problems.
- Familiarity with medical terminology, operational procedures, and collection processes.
- Capability to identify, assess, and rectify problems is essential.
- Demonstrated professionalism and outstanding interpersonal skills necessary for effectively and courteously interacting with patients, physicians, families, insurance representatives, and all levels of clinical staff.
- Familiarity with CPT, ICD-10, medical insurance terminology, and medical information.
- Ability to maintain composure and manage multiple tasks simultaneously in high-pressure situations.
- Thorough understanding of practice management software and excellent customer service skills are essential.
EXPERIENCE: A minimum of five (5) years of experience in medical front office operations, registration, and EMR utilization. Experience with Epic and payer portals is preferred.
