Established in 1978 through grassroots efforts, we have evolved into a comprehensive resource center offering shelter, advocacy, legal support, community outreach, and education services.
About the RoleThe Director of Counseling, Community Education, and Crisis Services is a critical leadership position responsible for overseeing the outpatient counseling program, crisis intervention services, and community education. This role requires a strong understanding of intensive psychosocial services, including casework, group work, individual and family therapy. The successful candidate will have the ability to work under pressure, manage multiple priorities, and maintain a healthy work environment that encourages professionalism, respect, equality, diversity, and continuous improvement.
Key Responsibilities- Plan, establish, and direct the overall policies and practices for counseling, community education, and crisis services.
- Represent SARC with area service providers, on local coalitions, committees, and boards, and provide professional presentations for educational and marketing purposes.
- Ensure coverage for the 24/7 Hospital Companion, Human Trafficking, and Lethality Programs, which may include providing after-hours coverage during a staff vacancy or when a staff member is unable to respond due to illness.
- Review charts, sign treatment plans, and case management service plans for all case managers and counselors currently under supervision.
- Provide direct counseling services for up to 5 clients weekly.
- Provide regular auditing of all client records to ensure they meet the agency standards for documentation and treatment.
- Monitor counselor case assignments, treatment progress, case closures, and wait lists.
- Maintain and report accurate and up-to-date statistics for the program.
- Assist with grant writing responsibility, grant oversight, and grant reporting for Federal, State, and local grants.
- Hold team meetings regularly to provide feedback and direction, and meet weekly with direct reports for one-on-one supervision.
- Coordinate staff schedules and shift coverage, and review and approve on-call schedules for the hospital companion program.
- Participate in the planning and delivery of community education.
- Maintain good working relationships with outside agencies, both in Harford County and surrounding areas.
- Meet regularly with the CEO to discuss cases, procedures, and problems.
- Supervise counselors, crisis case managers, community educators, and the Coordinator for the Abuser Intervention Program, which includes interviewing, hiring, and training employees, planning, assigned, and directing work, appraising performance, rewarding and disciplining employees, and addressing complaints and resolving problems.
- Masters Degree in Psychology, Social Work, or related field.
- Two years of clinical experience.
- Within a 1-hour commute to our Bel Air office.
- Current MD license as an LCPC or LCSW-C is required.
- Must be able to effectively maintain a healthy work environment for all staff that encourages professionalism, respect, equality, diversity, and continuous improvement.
- Previous experience working with trauma and/or crisis intervention.
- Two years of prior management experience.
- 11 paid holidays plus two floating holidays for full-time positions, and 1 floating holiday for part-time roles.
- Up to 112 hours of accrued vacation time in the first year of employment (part-time positions working under 10 hours/week are not eligible).
- Up to 96 hours of sick leave annually (part-time roles working under 10 hours/week are not eligible).
