Medical Laboratory Scientist

Job Summary
As a Medical Laboratory Scientist / PRN at Baylor Scott & White Medical Center - Frisco, you will provide superior quality laboratory testing support under the general direction of the Laboratory Director. You will comply with department policies/processes/procedures to provide accurate results, quality products, and services, and assure valid results in the pre-analytical, analytical, and post-analytical phases of laboratory procedures. You will maintain in-depth knowledge of techniques, principles, and properly operate instruments in assigned areas and understand their inter-relationships as well as physiological conditions affecting test results. You will understand the workings of the LIS and its limitations with respect to the appearance and content of the final printed report. You will realize when additional supplemental information is necessary. You will understand and apply sample quality control and equipment quality control per department policy, and correlate data from quality control information to working situations on a daily basis. You will be a self-starter in identifying and assuming ownership of opportunities for improvement. You will use knowledge of instrumentation and procedures to assist others in troubleshooting and to train new staff members. You will manage daily workload in a productive manner. You may be required to obtain laboratory specimens by venipuncture if needed. You will ensure that laboratory equipment and instruments are clean, functional, and calibrated.
Qualifications
* Bachelor's degree in a chemical, physical, biological, or clinical laboratory/medical technology science with at least one year of experience in a hospital laboratory, or Associate's degree in a laboratory science or medical laboratory technology program with at least two years of experience in a hospital laboratory, or a minimum of 3 years of experience in an accredited laboratory.
* Certification by one of the following accrediting agencies: MT/MLS (ASCP) or categorical, MT (AMT), MLT (ASCP).
* CPR Required
* Knowledge of governmental and regulating policies/standards.
* Basic computer skills.
* Ability to detect color and color changes.
